Police Make Arrest in Fatal Haverstraw Hit-and-Run

Police have captured a man they believe was responsible for the fatal hit-and-run on Route 9W in Haverstraw near Fairmount Avenue early Tuesday morning. Haverstraw Police say they arrested 43 year-old Sugundo Landi-Lucer of Queens. He’s been charged in the death of 75 year-old Haverstraw resident Juan Alberto Germosen. Germonsen reportedly lived at the Green Hills Home for Adults nearby. He was found lying in the roadway, rushed to the hospital, and later pronounced dead.

“My thanks to the Town of Haverstraw Police Department and the Town of Clarkstown Police Accident Reconstruction Team for their quick work processing the crime scene and to the NYPD and NYSP for their assistance in apprehending the suspect in this tragic case. As a former police commander, I understand and appreciate exactly how much hard work went into securing this outcome. It is my hope that the family of Juan Germosen can rest more easily tonight knowing the person allegedly responsible for his death is now behind bars and that justice will be quickly served in this case,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day in a statement.

Report: Suffern Teen Pleads Guilty in Fatal Drunk Driving Accident in Montebello

A Suffern High School student will serve up to six months in prison and five years probation after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a fatal drunk driving crash earlier this year in Montebello that killed a Suffern High School freshman. News 12 says 17-year-old Joseph Debellis admitted he drove drunk and smoked pot the morning he crashed into a pole on Route 202. 16 year-old Jacqueline Zangrilli died at the scene. Debellis will be sentenced in March next year.

Police Seeking Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run, Haverstraw Man Killed

[click here for update] An 82 year-old Haverstraw man was killed yesterday, allegedly by a hit-and-run driver as the man was crossing Route 9W near Fairmount Avenue. The incident took place around 7 Tuesday morning near New Main Street. Juan Alberto Germonsen reportedly lived at the Green Hills Home for Adults nearby. He was found lying in the roadway, rushed to the hospital, and later pronounced dead. Police continue their search for the driver. The suspect’s vehicle is a silver or white Ford Explorer with dark rims, a moonroof, and should have damage to passenger side window and front bumper. Spring Valley’s Building Inspector Pleads Not Guilty to Fatal March Fire Charges

Spring Valley’s building inspector pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges stemming from the fatal March fire that killed a village volunteer firefighter and a resident of an adult home. Rockland D.A. Tom Walsh says 64 year-old Wayne Ballard has been charged with Falsifying Business Records and two other charges. The investigation into the Evergreen Home for Adults continues. Spring Valley’s Assistant Building Inspector, Ray Canario, entered a “not guilty” plea earlier this month on charges he falsified documents he filed with the state. They are both due back in court December 8th.
