The Rockland Senior Club today is holding their first in-person meeting since COVID began. Club member Lou Morris says the group is eager to get back to normal…
The meeting is free and open to the public. It’s being held at the RCC Tech Center at noon. You have to wear masks and people will be seated in every other seat.

Orangetown Police need your help with a residential burglary that occurred November 8th between noon and 4pm near Birchwood Road in Blauvelt. Police suspect one or more individuals may have been looking for homes that appeared to be unoccupied or with no cars in the driveway. Police ask neighbors to check their home video surveillance systems that may have caught any suspicious activity. If you have any information, call the Orangetown Police at 845-359-3700 and ask for Detective Myers.

Today is Veterans Day, and several events are being held in today in Rockland. In Stony Point, an Eagle Scout’s veterans project is being unveiled at 9am at Clark Park located at East Main Street and Beach Road.
In Nyack, the Hezekiah Easter Veterans Memorial Square dedication will take place on the corner of Main and Cedar streets at 9:30am.
In Ramapo, the Jewish War Veterans service gets underway at 10am at the Gene Levy Park on Route 45.
In Suffern, the village is hosting their annual event at 11am at the Soldier’s Monument Statue at 61 Washington Avenue.
The American Legion Leo Laders Post 130 hosts their ceremony at 11am at Calico Hill Veterans Park on West Railroad Avenue in Garnerville.
The Nanuet Civic Association and the Naurashank American Legion will hold a ceremony at Memorial Park on Prospect Street by the train station, also at 11am.
Susan Branam is the director of the Rockland Veterans Service Agency. Branam says the outpouring of affection for veterans from Rocklanders doesn’t only come this time of year, but all throughout the year…
The Rockland County Veterans Coordinating Council’s “Veteran of the Year Ceremony” honoring Chip Hayes begins at noon Sunday in front of the Allison-Parris Building on New Hempstead Road.
Other events being held on Sunday, include a parade in Pearl River at 10am with refreshments to follow for veterans at the Pearl River American Legion Post 329. Over in Orangeburg there’s a ceremony at 10am at Veterans Memorial Park at 81 Hunt Road.

Spring Valley High School is now the home of a Purple Heart plaque, given posthumously to an Army Air Corps Staff Sergeant from the area. Stanley Boorman graduated Spring Valley High School in 1940. He was killed when he was shot down during a mission in Japan during World War II at the age of 24. Purple Heart recipient, Howard Golden, the local commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, presented the school district with the plaque in a ceremony yesterday, and it is now encased in the main hallway of the high school.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week approved a new version of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, and experts are offering additional resources for parents to learn more about the vaccine as the option is made available in New York. There are 1.5 million kids in the state now eligible for the vaccine. State epidemiology director Dr. Emily Lutterloh says the vaccinations are safe, and key to keeping kids safe amidst the pandemic, especially as the holiday season approaches…
Dr. Ron Yee with the National Association of Community Health Centers says despite its availability, he doesn’t expect parents will step up and get their eligible kids a vaccine right away…
To help encourage parents, Governor Kathy Hochul says the state is offering 5-11 year-olds the chance to win a full ride to a SUNY or CUNY school, just for getting the new Pfizer kids’ vaccine…
