Rockland’s homeless, single adults now have a place to go as the temperatures start to plunge. The Yeager Health Center’s Warming Center in Pomona opened Monday and has various services including immunizations, mental health screenings, permanent housing options, showers and laundry facilities. The Center’s open through April 30th every night regardless of the temperature, and will be open during the day when it’s 32 degrees or lower. Dinner and breakfast are provided for overnight guests and lunch is served during the day when the center is open. Transportation is available from Nyack, Haverstraw, Spring Valley and Pomona.

A Sullivan County woman has been accused of stealing autographed sports memorabilia, watches and other items, that were supposed to be raffled off to benefit a local 9/11 charity four weeks ago. Clarkstown Police Detective Norman Peters says 51 year-old Shannon Morris of Bloomingburg was arraigned Thursday on Felony Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property charges, accused of stealing the items earlier this month from the 9/11 Education Foundation and the Foley Strong organization…

The groups were to raffle the items off at an event featuring the “9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit” at Germonds Park in West Nyack four weeks ago. Morris was released without bail and ordered to return to court December 9th.

Early voting is now closed and tomorrow is Election Day here in the county, with several local offices on the ballot. In Stony Point, a ballot initiative will decide the future of the town’s golf course and 26 acres of the Letchworth Village property. Supervisor Jim Monaghan is seeking his fourth two-year term, and says the agreement struck with a local developer to take over Patriot Hills is great for the town…

The buildings on the property would also have to be cleaned up and remediated. Stony Point Lawyer Mike Diederich is running against Monaghan for supervisor. He’s concerned the golf course could someday change hands and the property become multi-family housing like what’s found in the town of Ramapo or Kiryas Joel…

Either way, western Ramapo and Orange County Assemblyman Karl Brabenec says it’s important to make your voice heard…
