Rockland Lawmakers Hope to Keep Paroled Brink’s Killer Out of County

It’s not clear when paroled Brink’s killer David Gilbert will get out of prison or where he’ll go after that, but local officials don’t want him here and would prefer he remain behind bars. Gilbert was granted clemency by former governor Andrew Cuomo just before he resigned, and the parole board gave him his freedom last month, after serving about 40 years of his 75 year-to-life sentence. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says he was more than a simple getaway driver…

Rockland sheriff Lou Falco didn’t expect Gilbert to be released in his first appearance before the parole board…

Rockland Assemblyman Mike Lawler has called for the parole board to resign. Sergeant Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly ‘Chipper’ Brown and Brinks guard Peter Paige were killed in the heist from the former Nanuet Mall 40 years ago. Gilbert is expected to be released before November 30th.

Two Rabbis Charged in Connection with Fatal Spring Valley Adult Home Fire Plead Not Guilty

The two Rabbis accused in the fatal fire at a Spring Valley adult home earlier this year pleaded not guilty yesterday in Rockland County court. D.A. Tom Walsh says Aaron Sommer and Nathaniel Sommer are accused of Manslaughter, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Assault, Arson and other charges stemming from the blaze at the Evergreen Adult Home back in March. The Sommers are free on $200,000 bail, they’ll be back in court next week. Spring Valley firefighter, 35 year-old Jared Lloyd, and 79 year-old Evergreen resident, Oliver Hueston, were both killed.

Reports: Former NY Governor to face Misdemeanor Charges

A summons charging New York’s former governor with misdemeanor forcible touching was prematurely issued by Albany City Court on Thursday after a sheriff’s investigator filed paperwork with the court summarizing their investigation. That’s according to the Albany Times Union. The filing paves the way for a criminal complaint. The summons has reportedly not yet been served on former governor Andrew Cuomo, but he’s scheduled to appear in Albany City Court November 17th.

New Phone Dialing Rules Now in Effect in 845, Other Area Codes

As of this past Sunday, everyone in 82 area codes in 36 different states now needs to dial the area code and phone number, even if you’re calling within the same area code. Here in New York, that includes 845, 914, 516, 607 and 716. The transition to 10-digit dialing is mandated by the FCC to make room for the “988” National Suicide Prevention Lifeline starting next July. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says here in 845, we don’t have to add an additional number “one” at the beginning of a call…

You may have already noticed local calls dialed with only seven digits may not be completed, and you get that recording telling you the call cannot be completed as dialed. Verizon urges customers to make sure all services that use a phone number, such as security and medical alert systems, must all be changed to work properly.
