Similarly, in Ramapo, a grocery store would seem like a good candidate to take over the Shop Rite on Route 59 near Ramapo town hall that announced last month they would be closing. But supervisor Michael Specht says it’s not clear whether another grocery store will fill that space…

Specht says the marketplace will determine what business comes in and succeeds or doesn’t. The Shop Rite is slated to close November 15th.

The Jewish Federation & Foundation of Rockland County is hosting a special presentation tomorrow as part of its 2022 Annual Campaign Launch and Celebration. The online event is being held with the heads of the Haverstraw African American Connection and Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education, and they’ll discuss their “Better Together” initiative. The discussion will focus on how the organizations are working to bridge the gap between their communities. Rich Levin, who heads up the Federation’s Community Relations Council, will moderate the panel. The webinar is being held tomorrow at 7pm. Pre-registration is required. RCC is hosting a special webinar Friday designed to explain how colleges support and mentor Latin students and employees. Edwin Rivadeneyra is the Financial Literacy Coordinator at RCC, and says the online event will discuss the various obstacles Latin students face and how they can navigate them to reach their educational goals, without being too hard on themselves…

One was killed yesterday in a helicopter crash near Storm King Mountain in the town of Cornwall. New York State Police had no other information on any other victims or the cause of the crash and were working with state and local fire departments and forest rangers at the scene.

The opioid problem isn’t going away, and Rockland’s sheriff is looking to gather the experts together to help tackle the problem. While the number of deaths went down last year, this year we’re already equal to the numbers of deaths in 2019. Sheriff Lou Falco told “The Morning Show” Wednesday, public safety and health professionals may need a different strategy…

NARCAN saves are also way up this year compared to the last two years. Governor Kathy Hochul signed a package of bills last week designed to reduce drug-related overdose deaths and help those suffering from addiction to get help. For Governor Hochul, the crisis hits close to home, as she lost her nephew to an overdose six years ago…

Meanwhile, Attorney General Letitia James announced Wednesday Rockland and other Hudson Valley counties will get millions to help combat the opioid crisis thanks to litigation that’s been settled with various opioid manufacturers and distributors. James said, so far, Rockland will be getting between 2.5 to 4.5 million dollars to invest in opioid prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.
