Congesting Pricing Hearings Underway as MTA Looks to Raise Money for Repairs and Upgrades

One of two congestion pricing hearings for suburban commuters gets underway today. The MTA plan would charge a yet-to-be-determined toll on commuters entering Manhattan at or below 60th Street. Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski is against the plan, since Rockland and other suburban commuters don’t have many reliable public transit options…

The proposal seeks to take in $1 billion a year in tolls so the MTA could fund upgrades and repairs. The next hearing is October 5th. NYS Budgets $27 million to Provide Relief to Undocumented Residents Hit by Hurricane Ida

New York is making $27 million available to provide relief to undocumented residents affected by Hurricane Ida. Governor Kathy Hochul said the funding would be distributed through various community organization grants for New Yorkers who can’t get storm recovery assistance through FEMA…

But Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt slammed the move, calling it a “game of political theatre” noting Hudson Valley counties including Orange, Putnam and Dutchess still have not been included in the FEMA disaster declaration. Rockland assemblyman Mike Lawler says he understands the desire to want to help people, but he adds, we do have rules…

Rockland Offers Booster Dose of Pfizer Vaccine

A booster dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine is now available to certain populations that have already received their first two shots of the Pfizer vaccine. The Rockland County Department of Health will begin giving out 3rd doses of the vaccine beginning today at 3pm. For those who have yet to get any shots, Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the data shows, they are doing their job…

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that certain people should get a booster dose six months after getting their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. A booster dose is not yet available for those who got the Moderna or Johnson and Johnson shots. The CDC recommends you should get the Pfizer booster shot if you are 65 and older, 18 and older and are in a long-term care setting, and those age 50–64 with certain underlying medical conditions. Again, this is only if you have had Pfizer already and got the second shot at least six months ago. To make an appointment at the RCDOH, click here. Deadline for NY Healthcare Works to Get Vaccinated Passes

Yesterday was the deadline for healthcare workers here in New York to get their vaccination shots. Governor Kathy Hochul said people have had enough time to get vaccinated…

The Associated Press reported some New York hospitals and nursing homes began removing workers Monday for failing to meet the deadline to get a COVID-19 vaccine. It’s not clear whether the move would cause massive staff shortages around the state.

Stony Point Ambulance Corps Mourns Loss of Volunteer

The Stony Point Ambulance Corps is mourning the loss of one of their own volunteers. Joey Zask died Saturday at the Stony Point Ambulance Headquarters where he was found unresponsive. On their Facebook page, the Stony Point Ambulance Corps said Zask was “someone who never said no and dedicated his life to helping others.” He also volunteered with the Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps, who called him a “dedicated and highly motivated member.” The cause of death is not known, nor is funeral information at this time.
