Clarkstown Police continue to investigate what happened in a fatal car accident Friday in Congers. Police say the accident occurred Friday night around 11:45 near the intersection of Lake Road and Route 9W. A car had struck a utility pole and overturned. Two men were ejected from the car, including the driver, 35 year-old Mark Savino, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Rockland Paramedics. The passenger, 41 year-old Salvador Dejesus Rojas, was taken to Westchester Medical Center. No word on his condition.
Pearl River School District Investigating Vandalism Targeting “Gay Straight Trans Alliance” Club’s Bulletin Board
Pearl River High School’s interim principal and the district superintendent are condemning several acts of vandalism this month that have targeted the school’s “Gay Straight Trans Alliance” club’s bulletin board. The bulletin board has since been relocated to a larger space that is under video surveillance. The school is investigating who is behind the vandalism, at this time no one has been identified.
South Nyack Board Meeting Tuesday to Update Status of Village Dissolution Plans
The village of South Nyack will be giving an update on the status of the dissolution of the village at tonight’s board meeting. Residents voted in December to dissolve and become part of the town of Orangetown. The meeting is being held tonight in-person at South Nyack Village Hall on South Broadway at 7:30. It’s also being live-streamed on the village’s Facebook page.
One Killed, One Hospitalized in Congers Crash
Clarkstown Police are still piecing together what happened after a fatal car accident Friday in Congers. Police say the accident occurred Friday night around 11:45 near the intersection of Lake Road and Route 9W. A car had struck a utility pole and overturned. Two men were ejected from the car. An unidentified 35 year-old was killed, the other, a 41 year-old, was brought to Westchester Medical Center. Next of kin was still being notified. The Clarkstown Police Accident Investigation Team is investigating.

There are eight names are currently listed on the Monument, including Seaman Gilbert Fontaine and Staff sergeant Tatiana Dees who died during Desert Storm; Corporal Manuel Lopez III, Captain Phillip Esposito, Corporal Steve Vahaviolos and Corporal Justin Rivero Garcia who died in Iraq; and Sergeant Edward Bolen and Major Thomas Kennedy who died in Afghanistan. The monument is located in Haverstraw Bay County Park. Various landmarks around the state, including the Tappan Zee Bridge and One World Trade Center, were lit in gold yesterday to honor Gold Star Families.
