The Sustainability Walk and Showcase Fundraiser is being held Saturday, October 2nd, rain or shine, at Congers Lake in Clarkstown from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, and it’s open to all Rockland residents. Habitat for Humanity of Rockland is looking for volunteers to help them build houses for needy Rocklanders. They’ve built nine so far and are putting the finishing touches on their tenth, that one located in Hillburn, it just needs a dishwasher. Former County Executive Scott Vanderhoef is the group’s Executive Director, and says one of the ways they help families in need is to find homes that are in disrepair, and take them over…

Rockland officials yesterday unveiled a Human Rights Monument at Dutch Garden in New City dedicated to Thurgood Marshall, the country’s first African-American Supreme Court Justice. RCC president Dr. Michael Baston, who is also a lawyer, said Thurgood Marshall was a hero to him…

Before Thurgood Marshall famously argued the Brown v. Board of Ed case in 1952, he worked here in 1943 when he successfully appealed to the New York State Board of Education to end segregation of the Village of Hillburn’s elementary schools.

New York’s commissioner of health yesterday submitted his letter of resignation. Dr. Howard Zucker has come under fire lately for possibly helping the former governor hide the true coronavirus death toll in nursing homes and keeping other data from the Legislature. Governor Kathy Hochul said during her news conference Thursday Zucker will stay on until the position is filled. Hochul also reminded health care workers they must get vaccinated by Monday, noting that New Yorkers have the right to know that they won’t be infected by the person responsible for their health. Hochul also launched a new initiative with the NFL’s Giants, Jets and Buffalo Bills to encourage New Yorkers to get the shot…
