The health department was at the town’s summer concert series earlier this week to help educate residents on the benefits of getting vaccinated. Meanwhile the New York State Education Department is recommending that high-risk sports, such as football, volleyball and cheer, and other extracurricular activities should be virtual or canceled in communities where COVID transmission rates are high unless all participants are fully vaccinated. And the National Education Association is encouraging schools to follow the science, emphasizing the need for increased COVID-19 vaccines among those who can get it, and other safety measures including testing, tracing, masking, distancing, hand washing, ventilation, cleaning, and disinfection.
And RCC has cancelled a Hasidic Jewish wedding that was expected to attract thousands to the fieldhouse on Tuesday. The Journal News says Rockland’s Health Commissioner advised the college to cancel all large-scale events. RCC has reportedly cancelled all fieldhouse events for the next 60 days.
