West Nyack’s Foley Family to Host 9/11 Memorial, Education Center Next Month

The Town of Clarkstown, the Foley Family of West Nyack, and the 9/11 Education Foundation are hosting a two-day event next month to mark the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks and bring attention to the ongoing consequences felt by families who are still suffering from the effects. Joanne Foley’s brother Tommy was among the firefighters killed on September 11th, and her father, Tom and her other brother, Danny were lost to 9/11-related cancer. Joanne says next month’s event will feature the “Tunnel to Towers” Foundation’s high-tech “9/11 NEVER FORGET” Mobile Exhibit…

The event is Saturday, October 2nd, from 11 am to 8 pm, and Sunday, October 3rd, from 11 am to 6 pm, at Germonds Park in West Nyack. For more information about and to register for the event, visit 911EducationFoundation.org. They ask for a $20 donation per family.

With the program, families can learn how to reduce their “food-foot-print” by cutting down on what’s thrown into the garbage, and how to save money, as well. The challenge starts September 20th and runs for six weeks. It costs $25 per household and with that you get a food waste toolkit, and other resources to help track your progress during the challenge, a t-shirt and the chance to win prizes. Clarkstown Board of Education and Superintendent Part Ways

The Clarkstown Board of Education last night said they and their superintendent of schools have parted ways, though they didn’t say why, and replaced him with their current Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. According to a letter posted on the district’s website last night, Jeff Sobel was made Acting Interim Superintendent of Schools, and he’ll fill that position until a replacement is found. Several controversies have dogged Superintendent Dr. Martin Cox of late, including the early start date of the school year, the pandemic mask policy and a diversity and equity initiative. Dr. Cox has been Superintendent of the Clarkstown Central School District since 2016. The board expects to have a full-time Superintendent in place for the next academic year.
