The Martin Luther King Center in Spring Valley is hosting a food distribution later this evening. Pickup will be outside of the Center’s building on Bethune Boulevard. The Center will be closed to the public. Volunteers are still needed to help offload the truck, and assist with the distribution. They could always use gloves, masks, cleaning supplies, shopping bags, paper towels, and food items for future events. The event runs from 5:30 until 7pm tonight. JFK Airport Expansion Project Announced
The Governor yesterday announced the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and a group of financial sponsors are going to build a new 2.4 million square foot terminal at JFK Airport. Governor Kathy Hochul says the $9.5 billion project will be built in phases and create more than 10,000 jobs…
The new JFK will be expected to handle more than twenty million travelers a year. Construction is slated to begin next year and have 23 gates done by 2032.
Local Officials Slam Governor’s Indoor Mask Mandate
Local elected officials are slamming the governor’s new indoor mask decree, this as COVID numbers continue to slowly move upwards. The number of deaths in the county, with two more reported Friday, now totals 1,004. We’ve got 1,306 active cases, over 300 more since last week, and 23 hospitalized and confirmed with coronavirus, up from 20 last Monday. As far as the mask mandate, the governor says starting today masks have to be worn in all indoor public places unless businesses or venues have a vaccine requirement. These requirements are for both patrons and staff. It’ll be effective until January 15th, at which time the state will re-evaluate the plan based on current conditions. Noting that in Rockland more than 82% of the 18-and-older-population and 99% of seniors have been vaccinated, Assemblyman Mike Lawler called Governor Hochul’s mask mandate “government overreach at its worst.”

Power Restored to Rocklanders Following Saturday Storm
Power has been restored to those who lost electricity after high winds and rain moved through the region Saturday night. Around 28-hundred customers had their power interrupted starting around 6pm Saturday night. As of this morning everyone appears to be back online.
