Services are being held for the chief of Hillcrest Fire Company No.1 who passed away on Monday. Ramapo High School graduate Robert Murdock, Jr. served as chief from 1997 to ‘99, and started serving a second stint as chief this year. He’s also served as president of the Rockland County Chiefs Association and was a Life Member of the Hudson Valley Fireman’s Association. An Assistant General Foreman for the Town of Ramapo Highway Department, he worked for the town since 1991. Visitation is today from 2-4pm and then from 6-9pm at the Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 at 374 North Main Street in Spring Valley. Services are being held tomorrow morning at 11am at Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 and interment will be at Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley. He was 57 years old.
Nanuet Stop and Shop Relocates to “Shops at Nanuet,” Future of Old Building Unclear
A Clarkstown supermarket has closed and re-opened, basically across the street. Supervisor George Hoehmann says it’s not yet clear what will replace the former Stop and Shop on Middletown Road in Nanuet…
The new Stop and Shop took over what was once the Fairway Supermarket near the Shops at Nanuet.
NY Boulders Sweep Sussex County Miners
In Frontier League baseball…the New York Boulders played a doubleheader against the Sussex County Miners yesterday. The Boulders took game one by a score of 5-1. In game two, the Boulders were down a run in the third inning when Marcus Mastrobuoni stepped to the plate…
And that was Marc Ernay with the call on the Boulders Radio Network. Mastrobuoni came up again in the 7th with the bases loaded and delivered a single to win the game, 2-1. The Boulders swept the three-game series, and they’re on a four-game winning streak as they head into today’s doubleheader against the New Jersey Jackals starting at 4:30. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul: I’m Ready to Lead the State Now
She’s been a member of Congress, the Hamburg Town Board, county clerk of Erie County, where she served alongside former Rockland County clerk Paul Piperato in the state County Clerks’ Association. Now she’s on the biggest stage of her life, thus far. New York’s Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul introduced herself to the world yesterday afternoon. The Buffalo-born Hochul will be taking over as governor on August 24th, the first female governor in the state, following Andrew Cuomo’s resignation Tuesday…
Callers to the Morning Show yesterday were glad to see Cuomo leave office…
And leaving office isn’t good enough, there are many that want to see the name “Tappan Zee” emblazoned on the new bridge that crosses the Hudson between Nyack and Tarrytown. Rockland assemblyman Mike Lawler has already introduced legislation that would do that…
Technically, the new bridge was never named “Tappan Zee,” but most folks have been eager to see the new bridge carry the name that the old bridge did.
Storms Rumble Through Rockland, Wreak Havoc on Sports Schedules
Heavy storms came rumbling through the county last night…there was a handful of outages in Haverstraw earlier this morning, but those have been resolved. The storms did play havoc with the sports schedule in the region we’ll tackle that in Sports, coming up.
