An influential Monsey Rabbi is being mourned today. That’s according to several reports in Jewish media. Rabbi Moshe David Tendler passed away Tuesday. He was the rabbi of the Community Synagogue of Monsey for 54 years. He was also a biology professor and expert in medical ethics. He served as chairman of the biology department at Yeshiva University. A funeral service will take place today at the Community Synagogue of Monsey at 89 Maple Avenue in Monsey at 2PM. He was 95 years old.

Village residents voted in December by a wide margin to dissolve the village and merge into Orangetown. The village’s police department will be taken over by Orangetown’s in January 2022. Homeowners in South Nyack are expected to see their tax rate drop by an average of $14-hundred.
Rockland Gets $770K in State Grant to Improve Emergency Communications
More than $770-thousand is coming to Rockland from the state to help improve communications among first responders. Governor Kathy Hochul yesterday announced $45 million from the State Interoperable Communications Grant will be distributed around the state to help firefighters, police officers, EMTs and paramedics communicate more efficiently.
Former NYC Health Commissioner Tapped to Head NYS Department of Health
Governor Kathy Hochul yesterday appointed Dr. Mary Bassett Commissioner of the Department of Health. She’ll officially start the job December 1st. Dr. Bassett serves as director of the Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University. From 2014 through 2018, she served as commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, where she helped lead the response to Ebola, Legionnaires’ and other disease outbreaks. She’ll take over for Dr. Howard Zucker, who submitted his resignation last week, but is staying on until Dr. Basset officially begins in the position. Dr. Zucker has come under fire for possibly helping former governor Andrew Cuomo hide the coronavirus death toll in nursing homes and keeping other data from the Legislature.

Meanwhile, CNBC says the House on Wednesday passed a bill to suspend the U.S. debt ceiling as the country heads toward a first-ever default with no clear solution in sight. Republicans are expected to defeat the plan in the Senate. Government funding is set to expire tomorrow, and the stopgap bill would extend funding and keep the government open through December 3rd.
