Though last weekend was a little more comfortable, the humidity has returned, and warm temperatures continue. Rockland County Executive Ed Day urges you not to forget, leaving anything in your cars during these hot summer days, even if they feel a little more comfortable, can be deadly…
According to the CDC, after just 20 minutes on an 80-degree day, the inside of a car can rise to 109 degrees. After 40 minutes, it reaches 118 degrees, and after an hour, 123. Even with the windows cracked open, the CDC says you risk heat stroke or death inside a hot car. A two year-old boy, Antonio Ware Suarez, died of hyperthermia three weeks ago after he went into cardiac arrest when he was left in a hot car at the Sleepy Hollow apartments in Monticello. State Police investigators yesterday arrested 33 year-old Monticello resident Sarah Carter, and she was charged with criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned and sent to Sullivan County Jail on $50,000 cash bail. She’s due back in court later this month. Her relationship to the child is not clear.
