The second of two killers of a Pearl River teen could be walking the streets again soon, possibly here in the county. That is unless the parole board decides to reverse their decision earlier this month to free 60 year-old Robert McCain, convicted in the 1980 murder and sexual assault of Paula Bohovesky as she walked home from the Pearl River library. Rockland state senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick sponsored legislation that would extend 2004’s “Joan’s Law,” which bans parole for those convicted of killing and sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14, “Paula’s Law” would raise that age to 18…

McCain could be released as early as next week, but Rockland Assemblyman Mike Lawler says he hasn’t heard what, if any, restrictions might be placed on him…

Local officials have demanded McCain not be permitted to come to Rockland County once he is released, but where the parole board decides to put him is not known at this time.

A Hudson Valley man was killed in a two-vehicle collision involving a Monsey man in Orange County. New York State Police say the accident took place on Route 17 in Tuxedo, around four Wednesday morning. 31 year-old Eluzer Silber of Monsey was traveling north on Route 17 when his box truck collided head-on with a Nissan Sentra driven by 63 year-old Michael Wyka of Monroe who was traveling southbound. Police say Wyka was trapped in his car, and while life-saving measures were attempted, Wyka was pronounced dead at the scene. Silber suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Stony Point says the town has made an offer to purchase the local Boy Scout Camp that may need to be sold to satisfy the massive court case the group faces, but whether or not the sale ever gets made is out of their hands. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says the Greater Hudson Valley Boy Scout Council won’t do anything until they vote on what to do in September…

The national Boy Scouts organization recently reached an $850 million settlement with more than 60,000 men who alleged sexual abuse by adults in scouting over several decades. The agreement is the first legal settlement stemming from many lawsuits against the Boy Scouts, which filed for bankruptcy last year. Camp Bullowa and two other Hudson Valley properties the Boy Scouts owns locally have been put up for sale to help meet their financial responsibilities.
