The Biden administration last week extended Temporary Protected Status for Haitian nationals through February 2023. The move follows last month’s assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. Eligible Haitian nationals who have been in the U.S. since July 29th can apply or reapply to live in the country for 18 months under TPS. The Department of Homeland Security gives TPS to people from certain nations who have seen violence, corruption or environmental disasters.
Rockland County Office for the Aging Continue to Offer Farmers’ Market Coupons for Income-Eligible Seniors in August
The Rockland County Office for the Aging is again hosting drive-by distributions of Farmers’ Market Coupons for local seniors Tuesdays and Thursdays this month. Each booklet has $20 worth of coupons towards purchasing healthy food from various local farmers’ markets. Michele Burgevin is with the Office for the Aging, and says the booklets are available for income-eligible residents…
The drive-bys will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am to noon this month, while supplies last. They are good through November 30th. The Office for the Aging is in Building B at 50 Sanatorium Road in Pomona. Call 845-364-2110 for more information.
NY Boulders on Short End of Weekend Split-Series with Team Quebec
In Frontier League baseball…the New York Boulders squeaked out a win yesterday 5-4 against Team Quebec, losing two out of the three-game series over the weekend. The Boulders lost Friday’s contest 8-3 and then dropped Saturday’s game which was settled by home run derby. The game was tied at 6, but Quebec out-homered the Boulders, 10-1. The two teams are tied for second place in the three-team division. Both are three games behind the division-leading Tri-City ValleyCats. The Boulders are off today.
Rocklanders Concerned Over Hi-Tor Following Execution of DA’s Search Warrant
Wednesday’s raid by Rockland’s District Attorney on the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona has many concerned over the future of the shelter. The D-A did not disclose what the raid was about, but “Morning Show” listener Jenn called in yesterday and said it may not only be about the money…
County Executive Ed Day says all the funds that have been raised for Hi-Tor are accounted for, and Hi-Tor and the D-A should work out a plan to make sure the animals are properly cared for…
The D-A’s search warrant was reportedly part of an ongoing investigation. Hi-Tor Board President Debbie DiBernardo could not be reached for comment.
NY Gov Keeping Low Profile Since AG’s Report, Area Lawmaker Says Things Look Bad for Cuomo
Governor Andrew Cuomo has been keeping a low profile since Tuesday when independent investigators and Attorney General Letitia James released their report which concluded Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women, violating state and federal law. Western Ramapo and Orange County Assemblyman, Republican Karl Brabenec, says it looks bad for the governor…
The New York Times reported Cuomo’s been given until the end of next week to submit evidence in his defense for the Assembly’s investigation. Judiciary Committee chairman Assemblyman Charles Lavine said Thursday they would consider potential articles of impeachment soon.
