The town of Clarkstown’s Police Department has a new police chief. The board voted Thursday night to install Interim Chief Jeffrey Wanamaker as chief. Wanamaker has served with Clarkstown P-D for more than 34 years. The Nyack High School graduate started as a Patrol Officer and has served on the Honor Guard and Critical Incident Response Team. Lieutenant Glenn Cummings was promoted to Captain and Sergeant Joseph Dwyer to Lieutenant.
Former Executive Assistant Files Criminal Complaint Against NY’s Governor, Aide Resigns
A former assistant to the governor has filed a criminal complaint in Albany County. She had told Attorney General investigators Cuomo “reached under her blouse and grabbed her.” The complaint could result in criminal charges, and the governor’s arrest. Cuomo has denied inappropriately touching anyone. Also on Friday, Cuomo’s attorney Rita Glavin said the Attorney General’s team failed to perform their job as independent fact-finders, but instead supported a predetermined narrative and acted as prosecutors, judge, and jury…

Late last night published reports said Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa resigned. Cuomo is also being investigated by federal prosecutors over his administration’s handling of COVID-19 nursing home data. The state ethics commission is also looking into the same issues that the Assembly is investigating. The state Assembly’s judiciary committee is expected to meet today to discuss its months-long investigation into whether there are grounds to impeach the governor.
Biden Administration Extends TPS for Haitian Nationals Through February 2023
The Biden administration last week extended Temporary Protected Status for Haitian nationals through February 2023. The move follows last month’s assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. Eligible Haitian nationals who have been in the U.S. since July 29th can apply or reapply to live in the country for 18 months under TPS. The Department of Homeland Security gives TPS to people from certain nations who have seen violence, corruption or environmental disasters.
Rockland County Office for the Aging Continue to Offer Farmers’ Market Coupons for Income-Eligible Seniors in August
The Rockland County Office for the Aging is again hosting drive-by distributions of Farmers’ Market Coupons for local seniors Tuesdays and Thursdays this month. Each booklet has $20 worth of coupons towards purchasing healthy food from various local farmers’ markets. Michele Burgevin is with the Office for the Aging, and says the booklets are available for income-eligible residents…
The drive-bys will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am to noon this month, while supplies last. They are good through November 30th. The Office for the Aging is in Building B at 50 Sanatorium Road in Pomona. Call 845-364-2110 for more information.
NY Boulders on Short End of Weekend Split-Series with Team Quebec
In Frontier League baseball…the New York Boulders squeaked out a win yesterday 5-4 against Team Quebec, losing two out of the three-game series over the weekend. The Boulders lost Friday’s contest 8-3 and then dropped Saturday’s game which was settled by home run derby. The game was tied at 6, but Quebec out-homered the Boulders, 10-1. The two teams are tied for second place in the three-team division. Both are three games behind the division-leading Tri-City ValleyCats. The Boulders are off today.
