Lake Welch Beach up in Harriman State Park in Stony Point remains closed after an algal bloom shut it down last week. Joshua Laird is the Executive Director of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, and he says they’ve been treating the lake with copper sulfate, and are hopeful to open back up this week…

Laird was a guest on “Tough Times with Lou Young” right here on WRCR on Saturday. A massive bloom two years ago closed the lake for the entire summer. The beach will remain closed until the water quality improves.

A local state lawmaker is holding another meeting of his veterans’ advisory council tomorrow. Rockland State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th district says the upcoming meeting is being held in New City… 

The meeting is being held tomorrow from 6-8pm at the American Legion Post 1682 located on 65 American Legion Way off Route 304 and Congers Road.

If you’re really into golf and can’t stand driving long distances to your favorite course, you may be interested in a project being proposed for the town of Clarkstown. The owners of Paramount Country Club are looking to build residential housing on excess land near the golf course located off Zukor Road in New City. Tina Traster is the editor of the Rockland County Business Journal, and she says the zoning would need to change to accommodate the new plan…

The owners say the project would preserve green space for Clarkstown, provide increased tax revenue of over $3,000,000 a year, and would include housing opportunities for first responders. They are proposing a development that would reportedly include 128 townhomes, 84 apartments, and 33 single-family golf villas on the grounds of the golf course and feature amenities such as dining, pools, tennis, pickleball, a gym, and, of course, golf. Other suggestions, you should cook, bake, or perform other household activities that produce heat and humidity during the cooler times of the day and night, and pull your curtains and shades closed to help block out the sun and the heat of the day. Rainey says O&R crews are ready to respond to any issues that arise to make repairs and restore service if necessary.
