Orangetown Settles South Nyack Dispute with Orthodox Jewish School Over Issues at Former Nyack College Campus
The town of Orangetown has settled a lawsuit originally started by the former village of South Nyack and an Orthodox Jewish school that took over the former Nyack College campus. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says the suit centered on fire and safety violations and the use of the property’s buildings by Yeshiva Viznitz D’Khal Chaim, which bought the 107-acre property for $45 million in four years ago…
South Nyack dissolved two years ago and was absorbed by the town of Orangetown.
Tragedy Strikes Haverstraw During New Police Chief’s First Day on Job
Tragedy in Haverstraw coincides with the town’s new Police Chief’s first official day on the job. A 13 year-old boy was killed Wednesday afternoon while riding his bike and was hit by a car in the village of Pomona. The car’s driver stayed on the scene and called for help, and Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips says the town sends condolences to the families involved…
The accident happened to occur on the first day that the Haverstraw Police Department’s new chief took office. Phillips says Captain John Gould was promoted to Chief by the Town Board Tuesday night…
Chief Gould replaces Chief Peter Murphy who retired after 36 years of service. He started in the Village of Haverstraw Police Department in 1988. He rose through the ranks and helped to facilitate the merger between the Village and Town police departments back in 2006.
