A bill pending in the state legislature filed by two Rockland Republican state lawmakers may have trouble getting passed, if it comes to a vote at all. A bill that would get $20 million dollars to the financially-strapped East Ramapo Central School District to help them with the upcoming school year was introduced by Rockland State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th district, and a similar bill was launched in the lower house by Rockland and Orange County Assemblyman Karl Brabenec of the 98th district. Both are asking New York’s governor to call a special session of the legislature so the bill can be voted on to possibly help the district now. Rockland Republican Assemblyman John McGowan of the 97th district, whose area, like Brabenec’s, covers part of East Ramapo, told “The Morning Show” yesterday he’s not sure the call-back to Albany will even happen, and if it does, he’s not sure how he’ll vote on it…
Senator Weber told “The Morning Show” Tuesday it’s critical to get the school district the money now, but the State Education Department’s solution isn’t the right way to do it…
Assemblyman Brabenec says discussions he and Weber had with Rosa went nowhere…
Brabenec told WRCR the flawed Foundation Aid formula the state uses has shortchanged East Ramapo $400 million over the last twenty years.
