November is Lung Cancer Awareness month. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the U.S. and worldwide. According to the American Association for Cancer Research, lung cancer kills more in this country than the next three most common causes of cancer – colorectal, breast, and pancreatic — combined. On the Bon Secours Good Samaritan Hospital program “House Calls” heard earlier this month on WRCR, Bon Secours Medical Group Operations director and lung cancer survivor, Jeanne May Coffey, said it’s important to stay on top of your health, as lung cancer can be found, even if you’re not looking for it as happened to her a few years ago…
Coffey underwent lung surgery six years ago and today she is doing just fine. The AACR says that research has helped nearly 17 million Americans with lung cancer live through and beyond the disease. For more information visit AACR.org.
