With two petitions on Change.org garnering more than 25-hundred signatures thus far, a Facebook group called “RESIGN TOM WALSH – Justice For Jared Lloyd” with more than 2-thousand members, and calls daily here on the radio asking for an explanation, Rockland’s District Attorney continues to keep a low profile in the week since a plea bargain was made with two local rabbis, the last people charged in the fatal Spring Valley Adult Home Fire from two years ago. The D-A’s normally active Facebook page hasn’t posted anything new since Flag Day on June 14th. On Friday’s “Who Wants to Be a Volunteer,” Sabrail Davenport, the mother of 35 year-old Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd who was one of the victims of the blaze, called the plea a betrayal of justice…
Mark Woods, Director of Veterans Services with BRIDGES, is the host of “Thank You For Your Service” and a former police detective. Woods said on his show Monday that the D-A should explain what led him to make this deal…
Rabbi Nathaniel Sommer pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree manslaughter. He’s expected to be sentenced to five years’ probation. His son, Aaron, pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless endangerment, and he’ll get three years’ probation, and they’ll both pay $600 in court fees. They admitted to Judge Kevin Russo to using a blowtorch and coals to prepare the kitchen of the Evergreen Court Adult Home for Passover, causing the blaze that killed Lloyd and resident Oliver Hueston. The judge indicated he would accept the plea deal and the D-A’s recommendation when they are sentenced September 20th. We’ve tried several times to get comment from the D-A and from the Sommers’ attorney, but have not heard back.
