A Garnerville man was sentenced to up to three years in prison after pleading guilty in June to a fatal hit-and-run last summer. That’s according to News 12. 36 year-old Patrick Sharkey admitted to leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a revoked license and circumventing an interlock device. 18-year-old Dariel Rivera was riding an e-scooter to work on Route 303 in West Nyack when he was struck. Prosecutors originally sought a seven-year sentence.

Stony Point Woman Pleads Guilty to Fatal Stabbing of Her Mother
A Stony Point woman faces 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her mother in December 2022. Rockland County D-A Tom Walsh says 27 year-old Marilyn Mora had just stabbed her mother when police arrived at their home. Mora’s husband was on the phone with 911 when the incident occurred. Stony Point Police found Mora’s mother, Doris Quispe, laying face down in the middle of the upstairs hallway in a pool of blood. Mora was being restrained by her husband nearby. Walsh said Mora used two kitchen knives to stab her mother in the back and throat. Mora was sent to the Rockland County Jail. She’ll be sentenced December 3rd.
Rockland Ceremonies Reflect on September 11th Terror Attacks
Today is the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks on the city and the Pentagon. Ceremonies are being held throughout the county. A bell will toll at 8:46 for the first plane crash on the North Tower of the World Trade Center, again at 9:03 for the second plane crash into the South Tower. Bells will ring to mark the attack on the Pentagon, the collapse of the Towers, the crash of flight 93 in Pennsylvania, and for the 1993 Trade Center bombing. Girl Killed After Being Struck by Minivan in Village of Kaser
A two year-old girl died this afternoon after being struck by a minivan in the Ramapo village of Kaser. Ramapo Police say the incident happened around 3:11pm on Calvert Drive. The girl was taken to Nyack Hospital by Hatzolah Ambulance and died of her injuries. Police say a 21 year-old Monsey resident, who was not identified, remained on scene, was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. No other information was available.
Former Rockland Diving Coach Gets 18 Years After Pleading Guilty to Illegal Sexual Acts with Two Teens
A former Rockland County diving coach will spend the next 18 years or so in state prison after pleading guilty to illegal sexual acts with two teens. The U-S Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, says 58 year-old Victor Byrne got 220 months for transporting two minors from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and New Jersey to engage in illegal sexual activity in Rockland County 18 years ago. Byrne was previously a competitive diving coach for several teams in and around Rockland. Williams said Byrne gained his victims’ trust by pretending to be a police officer.
