New York voters have two primaries this summer. The June 28th primary covers the candidates for New York governor, lieutenant governor and State Assembly races, and early voting started last Saturday. You can vote at town halls in Clarkstown, Ramapo, Haverstraw and Orangetown, The Rho Building in Stony Point, the Fire Training Center in Pomona, and the Pascack Community Center in Nanuet. The August 23rd primary will cover congressional and state senate elections, and early voting for that one starts August 13th. Click here for the list of candidates.

The owner of a popular North Rockland deli was killed on Father’s Day when a tree fell and struck the pickup truck that he, his son and daughter were traveling in. The incident occurred on the northbound side of the Palisades Parkway just before Lake Welch Drive exit 16 Sunday afternoon. State Police say 48 year-old Anthony Apostolico of Chester was a passenger in the truck, driven by his son, 20 year-old Vincent Apostolico. Police say Anthony died at the scene. His daughter, 17 year-old Elizabeth, was also a passenger. Vincent was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. Elizabeth was taken to Westchester Medical Center with leg injuries. The investigation into the crash continues. Anthony owned the Italian Food Center on Route 9W in West Haverstraw.

A stretch of the northbound Palisades Parkway in North Rockland was closed for hours yesterday as State Police reportedly were dealing with yet another fatal accident in just the last few days. Sunday afternoon’s incident just before Lake Welch Drive exit 16 involved a pickup truck that reportedly struck a tree, knocking it over and into the car, trapping the truck’s occupants. The New York Post says one was killed and two others hospitalized.

Another crash tied up traffic Friday morning on the southbound side of the Palisades near Willow Grove Road exit 14. On Thursday morning, a Spring Valley man was killed after driving the wrong way on the Palisades and crashing head-on into an oncoming car near Seven Lakes Drive exit 18.

A Spring Valley man was killed early Thursday morning after driving the wrong direction on the Palisades Parkway and crashing head-on into an oncoming car near exit 18. New York State Police Troop F Commander, Major Paul DeQuarto, says 67 year-old Hugo Vasquez was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes around a quarter to five yesterday morning when he struck another car heading northbound. The driver of that car, 46 year-old Franklin Yanza-Zaruma, also of Spring Valley, was taken to Garnet Medical Center in Middletown with non-life-threatening injuries. His two passengers were taken to Westchester Medical Center, also with non-life-threatening injuries. DeQuarto says there were no signs of drugs or alcohol involved.
