Public transportation may be a little different for you here in Rockland today as a result of the Columbus Day holiday. TOR, Monsey Trails and Hudson Link buses will operate regular weekday service, but TRIPS paratransit buses will operate ADA-service only. Coach USA Rockland Coaches will operate the current adjusted service, while Coach USA Shortline will operate Limited Service. The Exit 14 Express bus will operate Limited Service to Midtown and Wall Street, southbound trips at 6:00 am and 8:00 am, plus a northbound trip from mid-town at 4:45 pm have been cancelled. Spring Valley Woman Pleads Guilty in Death of Infant Son
A Spring Valley woman has pleaded guilty to the death of her one year-old son last June. Rockland’s D.A. Tom Walsh says 36 year-old Marie Dorleus admitted she left her three young children unsupervised for several hours in their home. While she was out, her infant son asphyxiated after becoming stuck in a box spring that was leaning against a wall. She is scheduled to be sentenced in December and she faces the maximum of one and one-third years to four years in state prison.
Former Haverstraw Deputy Mayor Charged with Family Members of Taking Funds from Rockland Nonprofit; Says They Will be Exonerated
The former deputy mayor of the village of Haverstraw who resigned from the Board of Trustees last month, and two relatives have been accused of stealing more than $11,000 from a local nonprofit. Rockland’s D.A. accuses Emily Dominguez, her sister, Janice Dominguez, and her mother, Luz Marina Gutierrez, of taking funds and donations from the Rockland Community Foundation. Emily Dominguez was a board member and former president of the foundation. The three were indicted and charged with felony counts of grand larceny, falsifying business records and criminal possession of a forged instrument. They were released and are due back in court on October 26th. In a statement provided to WRCR, Emily Dominguez said she and her family have been under investigation for nearly a year and she’s given all paperwork to investigators, and she is confident she and her family will be exonerated. She is hopeful the community will stand behind them while they “fight against the ugly, because evil destroys people’s lives for someone’s satisfaction.” We reached out to the Rockland Community Foundation but did not hear back. Dominguez was first elected to the village board in 2006 and made deputy mayor five years ago.
Rockland Loses Two More to COVID
Rockland has lost two more to COVID since Thursday. The total is at 981, with 913 active cases and 29 hospitalized confirmed with COVID. Around 61 percent of Rockland’s population has been vaccinated. Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson said yesterday they are seeking federal approval for its COVID-19 booster shots. Regulators last month approved a booster shot for some recipients of the Pfizer vaccine and are now considering a Moderna booster, as well.
Two Weekend Shootings in Nyack Leave Police Searching for Suspects
Clarkstown Police Detectives are looking for suspects involved in a shooting incident late Friday in Nyack. Police say shots were fired around 8:25 pm near Waldron Avenue and Toto Court in Central Nyack. Responding officers found a number of fired shell casings in the road. So far, no victims or suspects have been located. Clarkstown Police ask anyone who may know or witnessed anything to contact them at 845-639-5840.
A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning after a shooting in Nyack. Orangetown police say the shooting happened early Saturday morning near the municipal parking lot and Artopee Way. The unidentified 34-year-old victim suffered two gunshot wounds and was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment.
