A Texas man was arrested by Clarkstown Police Saturday after multiple reports of multiple gunshots near Convent Road in Nanuet. Police say 34 year-old Lawrence Morretti was caught near St. Agatha Convent Park with two illegal handguns in his car. Police say Morretti had fired his guns into a wooded area with no intended target. He was was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court and sent to the Rockland County Jail on $25,000 bail.

A GOP candidate for New York governor, with the election more than a year away, swung through Rockland to pick up the endorsement of the county Republican committee. Clarkstown Board of Education and Superintendent Part Ways
The Clarkstown Board of Education last night said they and their superintendent of schools have parted ways, though they didn’t say why, and replaced him with their current Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. According to a letter posted on the district’s website last night, Jeff Sobel was made Acting Interim Superintendent of Schools, and he’ll fill that position until a replacement is found. Several controversies have dogged Superintendent Dr. Martin Cox of late, including the early start date of the school year, the pandemic mask policy and a diversity and equity initiative. Dr. Cox has been Superintendent of the Clarkstown Central School District since 2016. The board expects to have a full-time Superintendent in place for the next academic year.

The State of the County Address is traditionally delivered in February but was delayed this year to allow for increased focus on the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccinations.
