Rockland has lost two more to COVID since Thursday. The total is at 981, with 913 active cases and 29 hospitalized confirmed with COVID. Around 61 percent of Rockland’s population has been vaccinated. Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson said yesterday they are seeking federal approval for its COVID-19 booster shots. Regulators last month approved a booster shot for some recipients of the Pfizer vaccine and are now considering a Moderna booster, as well.

Two Weekend Shootings in Nyack Leave Police Searching for Suspects
Clarkstown Police Detectives are looking for suspects involved in a shooting incident late Friday in Nyack. Police say shots were fired around 8:25 pm near Waldron Avenue and Toto Court in Central Nyack. Responding officers found a number of fired shell casings in the road. So far, no victims or suspects have been located. Clarkstown Police ask anyone who may know or witnessed anything to contact them at 845-639-5840.
A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning after a shooting in Nyack. Orangetown police say the shooting happened early Saturday morning near the municipal parking lot and Artopee Way. The unidentified 34-year-old victim suffered two gunshot wounds and was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment. Orangetown Police ask anyone who may know or witnessed anything to contact them 845-359-3700.
Memorial Service for Fallen Stony Point Volunteer EMT to be Held Sunday
The Stony Point EMT who died Saturday will be memorialized at a public service on Sunday. 29 year-old Joey Zask had just finished his shift when he was found unresponsive in the Ambulance Corps Building, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Town supervisor Jim Monaghan says flags in town are flying at half-staff in honor of their fallen volunteer…
The Stony Point Ambulance Corps is hosting a public memorial service for Joey on Sunday at 6pm at their headquarters at 47 South Liberty Drive. A GoFundMe so far has raised nearly $10,000.
Influential Monsey Spiritual Leader, Rabbi Moshe David Tendler, Dies at 95
An influential Monsey Rabbi is being mourned today. That’s according to several reports in Jewish media. Rabbi Moshe David Tendler passed away Tuesday. He was the rabbi of the Community Synagogue of Monsey for 54 years. He was also a biology professor and expert in medical ethics. He served as chairman of the biology department at Yeshiva University. A funeral service will take place today at the Community Synagogue of Monsey at 89 Maple Avenue in Monsey at 2PM. He was 95 years old.
Rockland Loses Another to COVID, Numbers on the Rise
COVID numbers are creeping up again as the county has begun offering booster shots for those who have taken the Pfizer vaccine and qualify for it under CDC guidelines. Here in Rockland, we lost another to COVID, the first in a week. Our total coronavirus death toll is now at 979. The number of hospitalized with COVID is up to 27 and the number of current cases, also up, stands at 1,002. Pearl River-based Pfizer meanwhile submitted data to the FDA Tuesday on their COVID-19 vaccine trials for kids ages 5-11. The FDA is expected to take several weeks to review data. The Pfizer vaccine is currently available for those 12 and up.
