The head of the Sloatsburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps has been indicted by a Rockland Grand Jury, accused of stealing funds from the ambulance corps. Rockland County D-A Tom Walsh says 53 year-old Matthew Gannon took more than $70,000 from ambulance corps bank accounts to pay for personal expenses, including New York Jets season tickets. The Sloatsburg resident is charged with second degree grand larceny.

Rockland Congressman Calls for President Trump to Be Impeached Again Following Washington D.C. Riot
Rockland lawmakers had harsh words for yesterday’s violence at the capitol. Newly-elected Rockland congressman, Democrat Mondaire Jones, after Tweeting that he and his staff were all safe, said if yesterday’s “domestic terrorists were Black, they would have never been allowed to storm the Capitol.” He also said the president incited the violence and called on his colleagues to impeach him again. Rockland County Executive Ed Day, a Republican, said debate and peaceful protest are American values, but what was seen yesterday was “an embarrassment to our country.” Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt, also a Republican, said there was no justification for the violence.
Rockland Health Department Starts COVID Vaccinations
The Rockland County Department of Health has begun administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for people eligible under the New York State Phased Vaccination program. Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert says no one has herd immunity yet, so the vaccine is a must…
Those who got their shots yesterday will need a second shot in four weeks. Dr. Ruppert also stresses we still need to do the basics, wear masks, wash hands, do social distancing, and avoid large social gatherings.
Former Ramapo Supervisor John F. McAlevey Dies
From Ramapo Sup. Michael Specht: “Former Town of Ramapo Supervisor John F. McAlevey passed away today. Sup. McAlevey, a decorated WW II vet/pilot, served four terms from 1966 – 1973. He started the Town Housing Authority, expanded the Town Parks from 23 to 650 acres, and established the Town’s lateral sewers. Sup. McAlevey was also a former Mayor of Sloatsburg and served on the MTA Board. We mourn his loss and honor his long life of public service and achievements. Our condolences to his family and friends.”
Airmont Employee Tests Positive for COVID, Village Hall to be Thoroughly Disinfected
Airmont’s Village Hall is undergoing a thorough cleaning after an employee tested positive for coronavirus. In an email Saturday afternoon the village said other village employees are going to be tested as well. Those that were exposed are quarantining and will not return to work until Monday, January 11th. The village board meeting scheduled for January 4th will proceed at 7pm as scheduled.
