The town of Ramapo yesterday scheduled a meeting and workshop to be held next month on the draft environmental impact statement that concerns development in the northeast part of town. Several area residents sent us emails and called us on “The Morning Show” yesterday, concerned something wasn’t on the up-and-up with the last-minute scheduling of yesterday’s early morning meeting at which the January meetings were set up…

Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht told “The Morning Show” yesterday that the meeting yesterday morning was to formally present the document on the Northeast Corridor to the town board…

The public can submit written comments on the draft scoping document by January 13th. The meeting and workshop will be held the evening of January 20th. We have a link to the document here.

New York is easing quarantine guidelines per guidance from the Centers for Disease Control. Under the new guidelines, those exposed to COVID-19 can end their quarantine after 10 days without a testing requirement as long as they have no symptoms during the quarantine period. After that, if symptoms develop, they should self-isolate and contact the local health officials. They should also continue to wear masks, do social distancing and avoid gatherings.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we lost two more to COVID, the total count stands at 763. We’ve got one hospitalized being examined, another 95 there are confirmed cases, and a total of 2,115 active cases. Overall, we’ve had 26,926 reported cases, 219 more than Tuesday.

The New York State Attorney General will be taking on the Orange County company that allegedly secured COVID vaccine and gave it to those not yet on the priority list, once the State Police hand over any evidence they uncover in their investigation. The governor says a new executive order will call for fines of up to one million dollars and the forfeiture of all state licenses for those found guilty of such fraud. Parcare Community Health Network based in Kiryas Joel is suspected of fraudulently obtaining coronavirus vaccine and giving it to members of the public out of turn.

The COVID relief package signed by the president Sunday didn’t go far enough, according to New York’s junior U.S Senator. Kirsten Gillibrand says paid leave and other health measures would be helpful to Americans suffering through the pandemic…

The coronavirus relief package did not extend the Medical Leave or Paid Sick Leave provisions enacted under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

It took a few days, but all but one of O&R’s Rockland customers knocked out of service from the Christmas Eve storms have been brought back online. According to the company’s outage map, only one O&R customer in Chestnut Ridge remains without power. More than 13,000 customers lost electricity following last week’s powerful storms, which also shut dozens of roadways across the county.

Most of the remaining 2,000 or so O&R customers without power in Rockland should have their power restored by 11pm tonight, the company said in a statement. Tens of thousands across O&R’s service area lost power following the strong Christmas Eve storms that barreled through the region.

O&R’s says the company’s entire workforce has been fully mobilized to restore service, support field work and address customer needs. To accelerate that service restoration, Con Edison dispatched 165 more overhead line techs to assist, bringing O&R’s emergency field response resources for this event to approximately 500 workers.
