A thirteen year-old was killed this afternoon after being struck by a car while riding his bike in Pomona. Haverstraw Police say the incident happened around 2:44pm near the intersection of Overlook and High Mountain Road. When police arrived on-scene they found the boy underneath the vehicle, the driver remained at the scene and had called for help. Paramedics pronounced the boy dead. The Town of Haverstraw Detective Division was assisted by the Town of Ramapo Accident Reconstruction team and The Rockland County Sheriff’s Department BCI. Police say eyewitness accounts of the accident and surveillance video recovered at the scene show it appeared to be a tragic accident and no charges are being filed against the driver at this time.

Ramapo Legislator Wins Democratic Primary Against Former Spring Valley Trustee in NYS Assembly Race
Primary day was held in Rockland and across the state yesterday. Ramapo Legislator Aron Wieder won his race on the Democratic Party line to run against incumbent Republican John McGowan in the 97th Assembly District, defeating former Spring Valley Trustee, Eudson Tyson Francois. McGowan lost the Conservative line to challenger Thomas Sullivan.
In the 38th Senate district, former Senator Democrat Elijah Reichlin-Melnick lost the Working Families line to Barbara Francis. Former Congressman Mondaire Jones lost the Working Families line to Anthony Frascone in the race for the 17th Congressional district.

In the Democratic primary for Piermont Village Trustee, the top two winning vote-getters were Nathan Mitchell and Christine McAndrews with Rob Burns finishing a close third. The top two vote-getters for Trustee in the Village of Sloatsburg went to Republicans Susan McDonagh and Thomas Donnelly.
Justin Sweet won the Democratic party line for Justice in the Village of Spring Valley. Sweet also got the Conservative line, taking 100 percent of the vote…all 17 of them.
The big Hudson Valley race over in Westchester for the 16th Congressional district featured Congressman Jamaal Bowman, a Democrat, losing to County Executive George Latimer, who got 56 percent of the vote. The race gained national attention as a referendum on the party’s divide over the Israel-Hamas war. Latimer positioned himself as a pro-Israel centrist, while Bowman has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.
West Nile-positive Mosquitoes Found in Orangetown
The Rockland County Department of Health has found its first group of mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus this year. The infected mosquitoes came from a trap in Orangetown earlier this month. No human cases have been reported so far, the last one in Rockland was last year. News Briefs: Rockland DA Busts Smoke Shops Illegally Selling Cannabis
A year-long investigation into local smoke shops has culminated in charges being filed against four people and five companies. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says over 170 pounds of cannabis were seized in March from the five smoke shops in Clarkstown, Orangetown and Ramapo, along with more than $400,000. None of the shops, located in Nanuet, Pearl River, and Suffern, was licensed to sell cannabis. The investigation began when one of the shops was alleged to be selling pot to minors. The D-A’s office was assisted in the investigation by Homeland Security, the New York State Tax and Finance office, the State Office of Cannabis Management, New York State Police, and the Clarkstown, Orangetown and Suffern Police Departments.
Tomkins Cove Man Charged for Firing Shots into Car
A Tomkins Cove man has been charged after allegedly firing shots into a car earlier this year. Stony Point Police Lieutenant Daniel Schoales says 42 year-old Matthew Hoyt faces various gun-related charges after allegedly firing at least two rounds into a car that was fleeing the scene of a dispute. Schoales says Hoyt surrendered last month, was released on his own recognizance, and is due back in court in July.
Nanuet Man Revived After Crash, Overdose
A Nanuet man who had overdosed and was revived could be facing charges after reportedly crashing his car in Bergen County Saturday. That’s according to DailyVoice.com. They report the unidentified 60 year-old was saved by first responders using Narcan after the crash at a Route 17 Exxon gas station around 7:45 Saturday morning. Ridgewood Police said the man was found unconscious after crashing in a handicapped parking spot. The driver was taken to Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He reportedly faces DWI and drug charges.
One Killed in Four-Car Crash on Route 6 in Orange County
A four-car crash led to one fatality and several others being injured in Orange County Wednesday afternoon. New York State Police say their preliminary investigation finds that around 5:30pm a 2021 Kia was traveling westbound on Route 6 and rear-ended a second vehicle that was traveling in same direction. The 2021 Kia crossed over the double yellow line, striking a third vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 6. A fourth vehicle traveling westbound was struck by the second vehicle. The unidentified passenger in the Kia was killed. The drivers of the Kia and the second and third vehicles were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues.
