Ramapo Police are looking for a suspect believed to have gunned down a woman in Hillcrest this morning. Police say they responded to Inwood Drive just before 9am for a reported shooting. They say one person was removed from the scene by ambulance and was taken to the hospital. WABC-TV reports the victim, a woman, was killed. Ramapo Police had no additional information, but ask anyone with information to contact them at 845-357-2400.

Volunteer Firefighter Injured Battling Blaze in Thiells Tuesday
A volunteer firefighter was sent to the hospital after an early-morning fire in Thiells yesterday. News 12 reports firefighters from several companies helped battle the blaze that started in a garage furnace at the home on Madison Avenue around 5:45 yesterday morning. The firefighter who signaled a mayday for a medical condition was removed quickly and taken to an area hospital for evaluation, he was reportedly conscious and alert. The fire reportedly does not appear to be suspicious and is under investigation.
News Briefs: 8 year-old Struck by Bus Killed in New Square, More Layoffs to Come to RCC
An 8-year-old boy was struck and killed by a school bus last night in New Square. Ramapo Police Lieutenant Blaine Howell says the incident happened in front of 100 Clinton Lane in the village around 5:48pm yesterday, that’s near Village Hall. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver remained on-scene. The Ramapo Police Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the incident. No other details were available.
Report: More Layoffs for RCC
RCC in Suffern will be going through more layoffs and furloughs than originally anticipated. That’s according to the Journal News. RCC’s president couldn’t put a number on the number of staff that would be affected, but he said more cost-cutting measures are needed to handle a $4 million deficit. President of the Federation of Teachers local, Kristopher Baker, told the Board of Trustees the layoffs could come to one-fifth of the school’s faculty. The board voted two months ago to lay off nine administrator positions and institute nine days of furloughs — days off without pay — during the first half of this year for faculty, administrators and other employees, saving about $1.6 million.

Woman Struck, Killed by Train in Bergen
A woman was struck and killed by a Pascack Valley train in Bergen County on Saturday. That’s according to DailyVoice.com. New Jersey Transit said the the pedestrian was hit near the New Bridge Landing station in River Edge late Saturday afternoon. The train departed Spring Valley around 4:05pm. No injuries were reported to the 120 passengers or crew on the train. The incident is under investigation.
Gas Leaks Found, Plugged in Thiells
Two small gas leaks were discovered Friday in the Rosman Road area of Thiells. That’s according to News 12. The area had reportedly been experiencing a strong odor associated with natural gas for a few days. An Orange and Rockland Utilities crew located the two leaks coming from storm drains on Oakwood Lane. Repairs were made by 3am Saturday, and the neighborhood is not in any danger. Residents are encouraged to report any future gas leaks.
