A person stopped on the New York State Thruway in Ramapo, in a vehicle that was reportedly connected to an earlier homicide, was killed yesterday afternoon in an exchange of gunfire with State Police. It all went down around 2:55 yesterday, when New York State Troopers stopped a vehicle on Route 87 near exit 15A in Hillburn. News 12 says it began earlier in Albany, with a fatal shooting there leading to the chase down the Thruway. Police say during the traffic stop in Hillburn, the suspect, who was the only one in the vehicle, opened fire on two Troopers. They fired back, fatally wounding the suspect, who was not identified. One Trooper sustained minor injuries and the other was unharmed. The investigation continues, so anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Middletown at 845-344-5300.

[UPDATE] State Police-Involved Shooting on Southbound Thruway Near Exit 15A
[UPDATE 5:59pm} Around 2:55 this afternoon, NY State Troopers stopped a vehicle that was identified in a homicide on I-87 in the Town of Ramapo. During the traffic stop, the suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle opened fire on Troopers and Troopers discharged their division-issued firearms striking the subject. The subject is deceased. One Trooper sustained minor injuries and the other Trooper is unharmed. There is currently no threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing. Traffic is backed up through Sloatsburg area. Traffic is also heavy on I-287 northbound / Route 17N in Mahwah, NJ.
Candlelight Vigil Tonight in Clarkstown for Family Involved in Alleged Murder-Suicide
A candlelight vigil is being held tonight for the victims of the reported murder-suicide in New City just before the New Year. That’s according to the Journal News. Clarkstown Police said New City resident and Bronxville Police Sergeant, 49 year-old Watson Morgan, allegedly killed his wife, 43 year-old Ornela, and their sons ,12 year-old Gabriel and 10 year-old Liam. Friends of the Morgan Family, the town of Clarkstown and the school district are hosting the candlelight vigil at 6pm tonight at Germonds Park in West Nyack. Funeral Services Scheduled for Former Orangetown Legislator, WWII Veteran
Services are being held tomorrow for a former Rockland County Legislator who passed away late last week. Frank Fornario was a World War II veteran and served as a legislator from the town of Orangetown. Born in Brooklyn, Fornario was the co-founder of the Camp Shanks Memorial, a monument honoring Orangetown’s pivotal role in the second World War. He was elected to the Rockland County Legislature in 1982 and served there for more than two decades. A wake is scheduled for Wednesday, January 3rd, from 5-8pm at the Wyman Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River. A graveside service will take place Thursday, January 4th, at 11AM at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spring Valley. He was 96 years old.
74 year-old Dead After House Fire in Central Nyack
A 74 year-old man died aft er a house fire in Central Nyack Saturday afternoon. Clarkstown Police say the fire of unknown origin started at 49 Laurel Road. Volunteers from the Central Nyack fire department and several other volunteer fire companies responded, locating the man unconscious in an upstairs bedroom. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
