The former Montebello podiatrist who did time for trying to have his wife killed is being sued by her for emotional distress. That’s according to The Journal News. This as 49 year-old Ira Bernstein faces charges for allegedly trying a second time to have his estranged wife killed. Bernstein and his sister have pleaded not guilty to conspiring with a Haverstraw landscaper in the plot. The landscaper has not been charged and is working with the prosecutors in the criminal case, the next court date in that case is at the end of September. Both Bernstein and his sister were reportedly released without bail though a temporary order of protection was issued. Bernstein spent nearly five years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring with a former girlfriend to kill his wife. No court date has yet been set in the civil case.

Six Rockland School Districts Have Opted In to Free School Bus Video Safety Program
Six of Rockland’s school districts have opted into the School Bus Safety program, which provides free cameras for school buses designed to catch motorists who ignore the bus’s stop signs, safety gates and flashing lights. The county has been working since the spring with a company called BusPatrol, which uses a sophisticated camera system to catch lawbreakers. Fines for offenders go up to $300. Every day in New York State, an estimated 50,000 drivers illegally pass stopped school buses.
“Preppy Killer” Robert Chambers Relocated from Hillcrest Half-Way House After Release from Prison
The infamous Central Park Preppy Killer, who was let out of prison on parole recently and sent to live Hillcrest, is no longer living here, confirmed this morning to “The Morning Show” by Rockland County Executive Ed Day. Highway Department Resurfacing Projects Coming to Clarkstown and Haverstraw
The Rockland County Highway Department is paving Townline Road from Middletown Road to Erhardt Road with a one-way detour in effect today. Matt Tibbetts is the Assistant General Foreman with the department, and says Little Tor Road between Germonds and Red Hill Roads is being milled as well. He suggests you avoid both areas.
Haverstraw Police say the Call Hollow Bridge over Minisceongo Creek on Call Hollow Road will be closed from Willow Grove Road to Anthony J. Morina Drive starting Monday, August 14th for repairs. The road will be shut for about four months. A signed detour route will redirect traffic around the project site.
Spring Valley Fire Department Roof Needs Fixing, State Grant Delayed
Spring Valley Hook & Ladder Company Number One needs a new roof, and they thought they had grant money coming so they could make the repairs. Turns out, it appears that the state has been dragging its feet. A state agency approved the fire company’s application for a $150,000 CREST grant earlier this year, but told The Journal News that more paperwork is needed before final approvals can be made.
