Probation and restitution. That’s the sentence for former Village of Haverstraw deputy mayor Emily Dominguez, who was sentenced yesterday for stealing more than $11,000 in funds and donations from nonprofit organizations. Rockland D-A Tom Walsh says she admitted last September to stealing the money from the Rockland Community Foundation where she served as a board member and former president. She got five years’ probation and she has to pay back the money she took.

NYS Court of Appeals Overturns Clarkstown’s Term Limits Law
New York State’s highest court has voided Clarkstown’s term limits law, giving the current supervisor the chance to run again. Lohud.com reported the decision came down on Friday. The Court of Appeals upheld a lower court decision that the Town Board had illegally adopted the 2014 law without putting it before a residents’ vote. Town supervisor George Hoehmann was a councilman at the time the law was adopted and voted in favor of it. Hoehmann and GOP Chairman Lawrence Garvey are expected to run in a primary and then the winner would face off against town clerk, Democrat Justin Sweet.
Small Early-Morning Earthquake Hits Hudson Valley, Northern NJ
If you were up around 1:53 this morning you may have felt a small earthquake. The 2.2 magnitude temblor reportedly struck just south of Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester, where it was felt in Scarsdale by WRCR Meteorologist Mark Hanok…
The quake also touched parts of Danbury Connecticut, the Bronx and northeast New Jersey.
Compliments and Complaints on Orangetown’s Handling of NYC Migrants Situation Come in From Around the Country
Despite cries of anti-immigrant reactions on the part of the town of Orangetown and the Rockland County government, the two are pressing forward with legal actions against the city and the hotel that was initially secretly secured to house hundreds of migrants, in violation of local zoning codes. Though he called the city’s actions unjust, Yonkers mayor Mike Spano said his city would be welcoming asylum-seekers to the Ramada Inn on Tuckahoe Road. Up in Orange County, two student events have been cancelled after migrants took over a hotel at which they were supposed to be holding upcoming events. That’s according to News 12, which reports the Newburgh Free Academy’s Music Council is looking for a new venue to host its banquet, and the Goldbacks Youth Football and Cheer comedy night fundraiser has been canceled outright, as another venue could not be secured on short notice.
East Ramapo School District Voters Reject Budget by Slim Margin, Spending Plans Pass in All Other Rockland Districts
Rocklanders yesterday voted in their school district elections and all budgets passed except for East Ramapo, which was turned down by just 45 votes, according to unofficial results. A school spokesman says the Board of Education and administration will make a decision in the coming days to move to a re-vote or adopt a contingency spending plan. Budgets were approved in Clarkstown, Nanuet, North Rockland, Nyack, Pearl River, Suffern Central and South Orangetown easily passed.
Propositions covering Capital Reserve Funds easily passed in Nyack, Suffern, Clarkstown, North Rockland and Pearl River. Voters also overwhelmingly approved the Pearl River Public Library Capital Bond.
Board of Education seats were also up for grabs. Clarkstown incumbents David Gosman and Zizette Deutsch were re-elected. In East Ramapo, Sherry McGill was re-elected in Ward 3, Simon Koth was re-elected in Ward 5, and Moshe Samuel Feder was elected in Ward 8. Nanuet returned incumbents Lynn Fahmi, Edward Dingman and Anne Byrne for three-year terms while in North Rockland, Deborah Gatti, James Kraus and Peggy Zugibie were selected. In Nyack, Jessica Goodman, Jennifer Marraccino and Benny Vazquez were elected to three-year terms. In Pearl River, Dr. Kathleen Ann Kelley took a seat. In South Orangetown, Katie Gravino and Diana Korabel won. Suffern Central voters chose Thomas Donnolly and Paul Shapiro.
