From the NYS Police: On April 13, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m., State Troopers from the Haverstraw barracks responded to a crash involving three vehicles southbound on the Palisades Parkway near exit 10 in the town of Clarkstown. Preliminary investigation revealed that a burgundy 1992 BMW, a black 2001 black BMW, both with New Jersey plates, and 2023 gray Nissan Rogue, with New York plates were traveling southbound when for unknown reasons the three vehicles collided. All three vehicles came to a rest on the west shoulder in the southbound lanes. The operator of the black BMW, identified as Cyrus A. Silverio, age 20, from Hackensack, New Jersey was declared deceased at the scene along with his dog. This is an ongoing investigation. The New York State Police are asking anyone who may have seen these vehicles prior to the crash or who may have witnessed the crash to please call Senior Investigator Carmen Goffredo at 845-344-5300 and reference SJS # 11370980.

Pearl River District First to Sign on to County Bus Camera Program
The Pearl River School District has become the first in the county to sign on to Rockland’s School Bus Safety program. Cameras will be installed on the buses that service the district. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the county is working with a company called BusPatrol to launch a violator-funded business model, giving the school districts the camera technology at no cost…
Day says a 30-day warning and public notice period will begin once 25% of buses within a district are equipped with stop-arm cameras, after which enforcement and fines will begin. Drivers caught illegally passing activated stop-arms on school buses will face a $250 fine for a first violation, $275 for the second and $300 for the third.
Freshman Rockland Congressman Predicts Budget Will Be Late

Both the Assembly and Senate have their own version of next year’s spending plan, in addition to the governor’s proposal, over which they’ll all negotiate. The budget is due by April first.
Nine Year-old Getting Off School Bus in Ramapo Critically Injured After Hit by Pickup Truck
A nine year-old boy from Ramapo was critically injured Tuesday evening after being hit by a pickup truck and then pinned underneath a minivan. Ramapo Police Lieutenant Blaine Howell says the incident occurred around 5:10pm Tuesday at the intersection of Pioneer Avenue and North Airmont Road. Lieutenant Howell says the boy had just gotten off a school bus at Cherry Lane Elementary. A Ramapo Police Officer and several bystanders were able to lift the front end of the minivan and free the boy from underneath. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he is listed in critical but stable condition. The operator of the truck, a 43-year-old Spring Valley resident, remained on-scene and is cooperating with investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
Assembly and Senate Launch Competing Budget Proposals, April First Deadline Looms
Both houses of the state’s legislature have come up with competing budgets to the governor’s, and one of them, or more likely a combination of them all, has to be passed by the looming deadline.
