The Clarkstown Town Board scrapped a public hearing and vote on whether to amend or do away with the town’s eight year-old term limits law just hours before they were scheduled to begin last night. That’s according to The Journal News. The issue could come up again. Two proposals were up for discussion and a possible vote. One would have repealed the law and the other would have changed the law to let elected officials serve 12 years − three consecutive four-year terms or six straight two-year terms, instead limiting them to eight years. The current law would prevent Supervisor George Hoehmann and Councilman Frank Borelli from seeking re-election next year. The Town Board approved the law in 2014 and it took effect in 2015.
