A self-defense seminar is being held tomorrow night to benefit the victims of the Monsey attack. Rob Fletcher of Suffern runs the sdi7 Safety and Self Defense Program, and says the seminar will teach basic awareness in dangerous situations, and physical responses in case of a violent attack…

The seminar is being held at the Crown Plaza hotel Thursday night from 7-9pm. There is a ten-dollar admission, and Fletcher says all proceeds will go to the victims of the Hanukkah attack.

The two NYPD officers who caught the Greenwood Lake man charged with the Monsey Hanukkah attack were honored at the Rockland County Legislature yesterday. Officers Russell Mattera and David Radziwon apprehended 37 year-old Grafton Thomas after his license plate was scanned on the George Washington Bridge. He faces charges in Rockland and federal hate crime charges for the attack.

Rockland’s five town supervisors along with their police chiefs are hosting the first in series of meetings tomorrow designed to bring residents of different cultures together to heal the divides that exist among Rockland residents. Ramapo Chief of Staff Mona Montal says if you attend, leave your anger and hate at the door…

Opponents of the recently enacted bail reform laws in New York continue to hammer away at supporters for failing to even bring it up for discussion as the legislative session opened earlier this month. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says he’s been disappointed to not see any movement in fixing the new laws that went too far…

Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski says reforms do need to be made to make the system fairer for those who don’t have much money, but some of the changes went too far…

And that was Rockland and Westchester state senator David Carlucci, a backer of the original reform bill. One of the latest cases that has opponents of the new bail reform rules angered involves a man in Harriman who was caught on a surveillance video punching a woman identified as his girlfriend, and hiding a knife up his sleeve but then tossing it on a roof. He was arrested and charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted assault and harassment, but was released on an appearance ticket.
