An unidentified person was killed yesterday after being struck by a train while standing on the tracks in Spring Valley. Published reports said the accident occurred just after 11am when a train was coming from Hoboken on the Pascack Valley Line. There were reportedly no passengers on the train at the time. Crew members were not injured. Service was suspended in both directions between Pearl River and Spring Valley while the investigation was underway. MTA police continue to investigate.

Rockland County Legislature Minority Leader Defends Raises
The Rockland County Legislature’s minority leader is defending the raises he and most of his colleagues gave themselves and other Rockland officials, including the county executive and the sheriff. The lawmakers approved the pay hikes when they adopted the budget by a 15-2 vote Tuesday night. The Legislature’s minority leader Lon Hofstein says they came about during the budget negotiation process…
Rockland County Executive Ed Day could veto any of the changes within five days. The Legislature then has until December 20th to override any vetoes. Though the plan’s been adopted, a public hearing on the raises is scheduled for December 17th.
Court Case for New City Man Charged in Twins’ Deaths in Hot Car Adjourned Again
Another adjournment in the case of a New City man who is charged in the deaths of his infant twin children after leaving them in a hot car over the summer. 39-year-old Juan Rodriguez was in a Bronx courtroom yesterday, where prosecutors have yet to decide whether to take the case to a grand jury or drop the charges. They’ll all be back in court in February.
