A Haverstraw man faces 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud. The U-S Attorney for the Southern District of New York says 33 year-old Jorge Padilla pleaded guilty Thursday to defrauding victims of more than $900,000 by soliciting investments in a phony financial firm based on a non-existent office and fake documents. For 2 ½ years Padilla claimed he worked for Dunatos Capital managing tens of millions of dollars in investments. The U-S Attorney’s office says Padilla sent fake statements to clients detailing how their funds were invested.

Guardian Angels Patrol Monsey Following Attack
The familiar look of the red-coated, beret-wearing Guardian Angels crime-prevention group is on patrol in Monsey following the Hanukkah stabbing that injured five last month. News 12 says the private, unarmed group wants to train local residents to be Guardian Angels and how to be on citizen patrol, and train them in self-defense.

Clarkstown PD Investigating Fatal Car Accident at Palisades Center
The Clarkstown Police Department is investigating a fatal two-car accident on Palisades Center Drive at Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack yesterday afternoon. The driver of one of the cars died, though the cause of death has not yet been determined. The Clarkstown Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team was on scene and had to close the main entrance near Snake Hill Road for much of the day.
Rockland Human Rights Commission Schedules Symposium for March
Rockland County is looking to its residents to help ease the tensions that have flared up of late, culminating in what the feds are calling a hate crime attack in Monsey last month. Meanwhile, the 37 year-old Greenwood Lake man faces new charges following a federal indictment that was handed down yesterday. Grafton Thomas now faces five counts of “willfully causing bodily injury to five victims because of their religion.” That’s on top of the five federal counts of obstructing the free exercise of religion in an attempt to kill. Each count carries a maximum of life in prison. At least five people were hospitalized with serious injuries, including slash wounds, deep lacerations, a severed finger, and a skull fracture. One remains hospitalized.
