Safety in school is a big concern, and the South Orangetown School district is starting the year with School Resource Officers in both of the town’s high schools and shared among the district’s other schools. Town supervisor Chris Day says while they and the police department are prepared safety and security-wise, they’re also seeing various health issues…
Day says vaping is affecting students even in the middle schools, and it’s sometimes hard to detect whether they are doing harmful drugs with them. Day says education about the dangers of drugs is being taught in the older elementary schools in the town’s school districts.

Automakers are committing to making rear seat reminder systems standard equipment on most passenger vehicles sold in the U-S by the 2025 model year. Rockland State Senator David Carlucci says it’s a great move but it’s not enough. Carlucci is looking to pass his bill to require all new vehicles in New York to have a rear alert system by July 2021. 39 year-old Juan Rodriguez of New City was arrested in July after police say he left his one year-old twins in the car while he went to work in the Bronx.

Larkin was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He was 91 years old.
