Advocates of gun violence prevention gathered in New City Tuesday to sign a panel from the original 1969 Woodstock stage and plead for peace and the legislation that could help bring it about. Steve Gold is the founder of “Peace of Sign” and he found a section of the original stage from the 1969 Woodstock concert. He’s been gathering signatures from concerned parents and students from around the state to bring to Washington, hoping it might encourage the federal government to take stronger action and prevent more mass killings…

Rockland State Senator David Carlucci put his signature on the panel, and says no one should have to bury another child or loved one due to a mass shooting that could easily have been prevented…

Shari Maurer with Moms Demand Action in Rockland County says 93% of Americans support background checks, and so do 87% of gun owners, and those numbers she says should drown out the NRA in Washington.

The Clarkstown Police Department SMART Sales Unit working with officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (SPCC) busted four area shops for selling booze and vape products to kids. Detective Peter Walker of the Clarkstown Police Department says the compliance checks used underage, undercover agents working with the Clarkstown P-D and the SPCC to make sure minimum age purchase laws are followed…

Detective Walker says the four that sold to the agent were Smoke Shop of New City, Danny Vapor of Bardonia, Rose’s Deli in Nanuet and Gulf Mart in New City. The nine that passed the test were: DinoMart New City, West Clarkstown Mini Mart, Food Mart USA, Comfort Mart Nanuet, Aladdin Vapes, Cloud 99 Vapes, Citgo Nanuet, Good Guy Vapes and Nanuet Mini Mart.

If you’re a Verizon TV customer, that’s what you’ll hear in your newscasts later this year. Verizon said it’s replacing the RNN-produced “FiOS1 News” with Altice USA’s “News 12” starting in November. In addition to the News 12 Networks, Verizon viewers next year will be able to access content from i24NEWS, a global news network, and Cheddar, a business news network. Verizon announced last month it would not renew its 10-year contract with the Rye, New York-based RNN.

Two men have been charged in the death of a Spring Valley man Sunday night. Published reports said 20 year-old Paul Miller of Haverstraw and 17 year-old Jayden Rodriguez of North Bergen, New Jersey were charged with second degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Spring Valley’s 20 year-old Emerson Jean-Baptiste. Spring Valley Police told the Journal News they were caught in North Bergen and awaiting extradition to New York. The incident, which was reportedly caught on video, occurred at a Spring Valley apartment complex on Liberty Parkway around 11 Sunday night.

Final goodbyes begin today for a former area state Senator who died over the weekend. Bill Larkin passed away at his home on Saturday at the age of 91. He had retired from the Senate just last year. Rockland State Senator David Carlucci says it was an honor to work with him and call him “friend”…

Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center in the William and Pat Larkin Education Center. Larkin was a World War II and Korean War veteran, became supervisor of the Town of New Windsor in Orange County, an assemblyman in 1978, and then was elected in 1990 to the state Senate covering portions of Orange, Ulster and Rockland counties. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 5th at St. Thomas of Canterbury in Cornwall-On-Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to Newburgh Armory Unity Center, Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties and Nora Cronin Presentation Academy.
