Rockland Sheriff: No Plan to Conduct ICE-like Raids

The massive immigration raid in Mississippi earlier this month has area residents concerned that something like it could happen here. Rockland sheriff Lou Falco says if something were to happen, his office would likely be alerted by ICE officials first. When he was on “The Morning Show with Steve and Jeff” last week, Falco emphasized that neither his office, nor other local police agencies, would do anything like that here in the county…

Critics of the ICE raids question why unauthorized workers are jailed or deported, while managers and business owners are not typically charged with any crimes.

Rockland Libraries Get Construction Projects Approved

Rockland libraries have had their construction projects approved and funded by the New York State Public Library System and New York State Education Departments. Finkelstein Memorial, Nyack, Pearl River, Valley Cottage and West Nyack Libraries got about a half-a-million dollars for various projects. Rockland State Senator David Carlucci says community libraries, in an increasingly digital world, are still relevant…

The funding will help pay for new heating, ventilation and cooling systems, the expansion of circulation areas, LED lighting upgrades, and other projects.

New NY Law Requires Powerboat Operators to Take Safety Course

Operators of power boats in New York State will have to have take a boating safety course or face possible fines, but not until 2025. Brianna’s Law was signed by the governor earlier this month. Western Ramapo and Orange County assemblyman Karl Brabenec says sometimes people think operating a boat is similar to driving a car…

The law is named after 11 year-old Brianna Lieneck, who was killed in a boating accident on Long Island’s Great South Bay in 2005. Current law requires those born after May 1, 1996, to complete a boater safety course. Fines range between $100 and $250.
