Some religious schools in the area are among hundreds that could be targeted for child sex abuse lawsuits. Wednesday was the first day New York’s new one-year window opened for older molestation cases, a provision of the Child Victims Act. Victims of sexual abuse previously were required to file any civil lawsuits before they turned 23. The new law allows for those under the age of 55 to file a lawsuit. The New York Times suggests thousands of lawsuits may be filed during the next year.

Report: Resorts World Catskills Considering Bankruptcy
The $1.2 billion Resorts World Catskills up in Sullivan County is reportedly considering a pre-packaged bankruptcy. According to NewYorkUpstate.com, Empire Resorts, its publicly-traded operator, could be bought out by its largest shareholder and taken private. Filings with the Securities & Exchange Commission reportedly show the casino lost $73 million in the first six months of 2019 and has more than $400 million in debt. Resorts World Catskills opened in early 2018. It’s one of four non-Native American, Las Vegas-style casinos in New York, and all four have struggled to meet their own revenue projections.
NY Gov Seeks Stronger Domestic Terror Laws
New York’s governor yesterday proposed what he called a first-in-the-nation domestic terrorism law that would include mass violence motivated by hate. Governor Andrew Cuomo said under the proposal, mass shootings against a group of people based on their actual or perceived race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, gender identity or expression, religion, religious practice, age, disability or sexual orientation would be punishable by up to life in prison without parole…
The Governor also called on the federal government to enact a new domestic terrorism law that would define acts committed on U.S. soil as terrorism. He also wants a federal ban on military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and to enact universal background checks.
