Orangetown Re-opens Three Playgrounds Following Renovations

The town of Orangetown officially opened its three renovated playgrounds yesterday. Stouten Park in Tappan and Cherry Brook in Pearl River opened to the public yesterday, as did Emilio DeFrancesco Memorial Park in Sparkill’s Depot Square, where the official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held. Orangetown supervisor Chris Day says the new parks can accommodate more people of different abilities, and the one in Depot Square keeps the same theme as its predecessor…

Two of Day’s children, 4 year-old Scarlett and 2 year-old Declan, liked the new blue slide…

Day says the next goal is to give the town’s large playground at Veterans Memorial Park a major overhaul over the next few years.

Boulders Lose to the NJ Jackals, 12-7

After a brief rain delay…the Rockland Boulders took on the New Jersey Jackals in Pomona last night. The Boulders trailed the Jackals by five in the 9th inning…

And that was Cory Spector on the Boulders Broadcast Network, the Boulders would go out with a whimper, the final score 12-7. “Midnight Madness” Fundraiser to Raise Awareness of Mental Health Issues

The Brandon W. Smith Foundation is hosting its annual “Midnight Madness” scholarship fundraiser at the New City Bowl tomorrow night. Scholarship committee chairman, legislator Lon Hofstein, says the goal is to raise awareness of mental health issues…

New Hempstead Woman Struck by Bus, Killed, in Area Parking Lot

A 73-year old New Hempstead woman was killed after being struck by a bus yesterday in a New City parking lot. Police say the incident took place at 484 New Hempstead Road in New City. The woman was leaving a program she was attending at the New Hempstead Presbyterian Church. The incident is under investigation and there was no further information.

After Mass Shootings, Rockland Sheriff Continues to Preach “If You See Something, Say Something”; Warns of Phone Scam

In the wake of mass shootings over the weekend in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, Rockland’s Sheriff is urging residents, “if you see something, say something.” It’s a mantra that’s often repeated, because sheriff Lou Falco says it’s important to stay alert…

22 people were killed at the Walmart in El Paso while nine died in the Dayton shooting, the shooter there was killed by police. The Sheriff’s Office meanwhile is warning of a phone scam making the rounds claiming to be from them. The caller claims to to be Sergeant Mike Mondelli, and asks people to call him back, leaving the number 845-205-3772. The Sheriff’s office says there is no one at the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office with that name and it’s a scam.
