Heavy winds and rain swept through the county last night, but at first glance it seems we escaped the worst of it. There were concerns about the possibility of a tornado forming in western New Jersey, but that didn’t materialize. Orange and Rockland Utilities’ outage map shows a few pockets in North Rockland without power and one in Pomona, but other than that nothing else has been reported.

Rockland Lawmakers and Law Enforcement Officials Meet to Discuss NY’s Criminal Reform Package
Area lawmakers and law enforcement officials met with the sheriff this week to discuss how some of the more extreme changes in New York’s Criminal Justice Reform package can possibly be reversed or amended. Rockland sheriff Lou Falco says the changes that concern public safety must be changed…
Rockland and Westchester state senator David Carlucci was one of the supporters of the reform package, but met with the sheriff to discuss his and the others’ concerns…
Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan attended the meeting, and says the concerns over the reforms came from across party lines…
The reform package is slated to become law in January.
New York’s Early Voting Ends Sunday
Early voting in New York ends on Sunday, so if you can’t vote on the actual Election Day, you’re running out of time. Clarkstown Legislator Harriet Cornell says the added convenience helps people who would not have been able to get to the ballot box on Tuesday…
The only town hall where you can’t vote is Stony Point, but Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips says if you live there you can go to any of the other four towns to vote early…
Depending on how many people vote early, you could find shorter wait times on Election Day. The state budget that passed in April included $10 million that the State Board of Election will distribute state-wide to help cover the costs.
“Cornucopia” to Benefit Rockland Meals on Wheels
The area’s finest chefs will be participating in a special fundraising event for Rockland’s “Meals on Wheels” on Monday. Risa Hoag of GMG-PR helped put “Cornucopia” together, and says the chefs will be cooking right at their own tables and provide a great meal for a great cause…

Orangetown PD Investigation into Fatal Pearl River Crash Continues; Driver’s Condition Reportedly Improving
Orangetown police are continuing their investigation into the accident earlier this month in Pearl River that killed two teens and sent the driver to the hospital. On “The Morning Show” yesterday Orangetown supervisor Chris Day said he couldn’t reveal details of the investigation, which involves several different departments…
The town has asked the state to review and improve safety on Route 304. Day says the condition of the driver who was hospitalized has been improving.
