A Sloatsburg man has been charged with criminally negligent homicide
stemming from a lawnmower accident that killed his brother earlier this
year. Published reports say 31 year-old Raymond Mackey was driving the
lawnmower with his brother, Richard, on the back of it on Route 17 when it
was struck by a car. Raymond was released and is due back in court next
month.

Three area residents were inducted into the Rockland Civil and Human
Rights Hall of Fame yesterday. The three were chosen by the Human Rights
Commission for the significant contributions they made to equality and
diversity in Rockland. The three honorees were Paul Adler, who works with
the Holocaust Museum, the Nyack NAACP and Rockland PRIDE; Haverstraw’s
Virginia Norfleet, who discovered remnants of the First African-American
Church in Rockland County while renovating a house in the Village of
Haverstraw; and Piermont’s Barbara Williams, who has advocated for
low-income housing, equal employment opportunities, and voter registration
issues.

The Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Department is hosting an Open House on
Sunday. You can learn about fire safety, tour the fire trucks, there’s
games, prizes and live demonstrations. Rockland's Fire and Emergency
Services director and Hillcrest member Chris Kear says the open house is a
great way to mark the end of Fire Prevention Awareness month…

The Open House is Sunday (10/25/19) from 11-2 at the firehouse, located at 374 North Main Street in Hillcrest. 

Seniors 65 and older can get free flu shots at Stony Point's senior center
on Tuesday in a partnership with Montefiore Nyack Hospital. Supervisor Jim
Monaghan says it's important to get a flu shot annually, and even Steve is
thinking of getting one...

The flu shots will be available Tuesday (10/29/19) from 11 to noon in the Rho building on 5 Clubhouse Lane at the Letchworth complex. You must bring
proof of age.

Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Rockland County is looking for adults to be mentors to the children in the program. Gillian Ballard is the president of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, and says a program they run is growing, and they could use more help…

Jennifer Sislin of Suez North America is on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and her father was one of the co-founders of the group 35 years ago. Sislin says mentors are very important for the kids…
