The money raised for the event will help homeless pets and give them a place to enjoy themselves when they find their forever home. It’s Sunday from ten to noon. The cost is $20 per dog, or $30 for two, and two is the limit. To register and to get more information, visit www.PiermontDogPark.com.

Instead of watching Goodfellas or the Godfather again, how about hearing stories about the true-life Jewish mob? Former mobster and book author Myron Sugarman will be discussing the history of the Mob and the Jews in America in “The Last Jewish Gangster” in Montebello on Sunday. Mark Zephyr says Sugarman will talk about some of the successful organized crime efforts, as well as some of the less successful ones, what he refers to as “disorganized crime”…

A 39-year-old Spring Valley man was arrested and charged with intentionally setting fire to an area home while about a dozen people were inside. Published reports said Hector Munoz-Zuleta faces attempted murder, arson, and reckless endangerment for the Jay Street fire early Friday morning. Everyone made it out of the house safely. Munoz-Zuleta was arrested over the weekend and was being held on $300,000 bond.

Rockland’s emergency services have been working with the State Park Police to make sure a repeat of last year’s short fuses and increased tempers don’t flare up over parking issues at Rockland Lake State Park. Rockland sheriff Lou Falco says the coordinated efforts with his department and town, village and state police, will help keep things cool…

Falco also urges people to stay safe when it comes to using fireworks, sparklers, and alcohol.

The RCC Senior club’s meeting tomorrow will be a bit more entertaining than usual. Club member Lou Morris says former fire and police lieutenant, Jerry Catarino of Tappan, who is also a pastor and a former scout for the Philadelphia Phillies, will be telling stories and singing, too…
