Yesterday was primary day in New York. Former prosecutor Tom Walsh cruised to victory in the race for Rockland District Attorney in yesterday’s Democratic primary. He more than doubled the vote count of the second-place finisher, Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski. There were no major upsets among incumbents in the Legislature, as Legislator Aron Wieder won his primary challenge in District 13, Legislator Aney Paul won in District 14 and Legislature Chairman Toney Earl won in District 8. Newcomer Mari Morrison Rodriguez beat Michael Parietti of Preserve Ramapo in District 1, to face off against GOP candidate incumbent Douglas Jobson in the fall. Elsewhere, Republican incumbent Scott Milich won in Clarkstown’s town Council race in Ward 4, while Democrat Thomas Martens got the nod for Clarkstown Superintendent of Highways. Incumbent Zach Clerina and newcomer Yisroel Eisenbach won for Spring Valley Trustee, incumbent Sherry McGill lost. In Nyack the two incumbents won.

A sewer project that’s been in the works in western Ramapo since the 1990s is still not complete and it’s not clear when it might get finished. The project was supposed to connect homes in western Ramapo to sewer service, but it ballooned in cost by the millions and has suffered setback after setback. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht wants to get the project done soon, but it’s difficult to nail down when that could possibly happen…

The original approved cost of $72 million 19 years ago has grown to about $167 million. That’s according to the Journal News, which said much of the cost is being paid by Ramapo property owners already connected to the sewer system, typically about $500 a year.

The Eagle Bay condo project in Stony Point will be back before the planning board tomorrow night. Stony Point’s supervisor says the board wasn’t happy with the latest plans for the waterfront. Jim Monaghan says the plans are expected to include all sorts of amenities that’ll be open to the public…

Once complete, each of the project’s more than 260 one– and two-bedroom units is expected to have a view of the Hudson River. George Potanovic is the president of the Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment, and says he’s still concerned about area flooding…

The planning board meeting is tomorrow night at 7 at the Rho building.

The village of South Nyack is looking to update its comprehensive plan and that includes launching a “Climate Smart Task Force” to help shape their long-term sustainability vision. Mayor Bonnie Christian is looking for volunteers to join the task force, so they can secure grant money to hire an outside consultant…

The whole update process could take about two years, the task force’s first meeting will be held next month. You don’t have to be a resident of South Nyack to be a part of the task force. If you have an expertise that they could use, give it a try. Call the village office at 845-358-0287.
