The head of the Rockland Solid Waste Management Authority is on a one-year paid administrative leave from her $182,000-a-year job. The Journal News reports executive director Anna Roppolo’s leave was effective July 8th for unspecified personal and family reasons. She been with the agency since 2005. Director of operations, Gerard Damiani, has taken over day-to-day operations.

Rockland Lawmakers Urge the Governor to Keep TZB Tolls Down

The Rockland County Legislature’s Minority Leader Lon Hofstein says the tolls for the New Tappan Zee Bridge will be at the current rates of $5 or $4.75 with EZ Pass through the end of next year, but that’s not good enough…
Earlier this year the governor used state funds to keep the tolls for Staten Islanders from going up 40 cents to $5.90 for the Verrazzano-Narrows. Rockland Boulders Take One of Three from Quebec
The Rockland Boulders took on the Quebec Capitales up north this weekend. After winning Friday and losing in ten innings Saturday, the Boulders were looking for a win Sunday to take the series. But it was not to be, they lost to the Capitales 4-3. The Boulders’ record stands at 33-37, 12 games out of first place. They have today off.
Audit Finds Rockland’s Surplus Fund for 2018 Jumps to Over $32 Million
A Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for 2018 has found Rockland’s government surplus funds jumped to just over $32 million, thanks to an improved economy, higher than budgeted revenues and lower than expected spending. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the growth of the Unassigned Fund Balance is a big step forward toward fiscal stability…
Day says there’s still work to be done. He says to be considered “truly fiscally healthy” the fund balance should be between 50 and $80 million.
Mahwah Woman Attacked by Coyote
A Mahwah woman suffered over a dozen bite wounds after being attacked by a coyote on Friday. NorthJersey.com says Doreen Entrup managed to grab a bat from a neighbor’s home to beat the coyote, which ran away. Traps have been set up around Grenadier Drive off Airmont Avenue just over the state line, but the coyote has not yet been caught.
