There are twenty races for various ballot lines in the November general election that first have to get through Rockland County primaries tomorrow. The battle for the Democratic nod for District Attorney has four candidates, including prosecutor Patricia Gunning, retired judge Victor Alfieri, retired judge Thomas Walsh, and assemblyman Ken Zebrowski. Walsh already has the Republican and Conservative lines, Mike Diederich is running as an Independent. There are contested races for the Rockland County legislature in District 1, 5, 8, 11, 13, and 14. On the hyper-local level, Clarkstown town board Wards 2, 3 and 4 have contested races, as does the Town Justice. In Nyack, three candidates are vying for two seats. In Orangetown, third-party lines are up for grabs for supervisor and town board positions while in Stony Point there are two seats on the board available to the “Working Families” line. In Spring Valley, nine candidates are battling for two, four-year seats on the Board of Trustees.

Rockland County Executive Announces He’ll Run for a Third Term
He once declared after two terms he is done. Well, he’s changed his mind. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says, though it’s still years away, he has decided to run for a third term of office. Ed Day says the most recent budget process and the desire to give Rocklanders a tax cut down the road are what’s motivating him to run again in a few years…
Day was first elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. He comes up for re-election next in 2021.
CUPON Rockland Urges: If You See Something, Say Something
The head of a local organization concerned with illegal housing and code violations is urging Rocklanders that, just like being on the lookout for terrorists, if you see something that doesn’t belong in your neighborhood, say something. Gordon Wren heads up CUPON Rockland, and told the crowd at yesterday’s Rockland Business Association luncheon that if government doesn’t prevent illegal development, you can. Wren told a story about how an Orthodox family in Ramapo recently worked with CUPON and brought an illegal housing project on their street to a halt…

Nyack Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges in Orange County
Several drug suppliers in Rockland and Orange Counties pleaded guilty earlier this week to felony charges. Among them, 35 year-old Marquis Gamble of Nyack. The group that pleaded guilty in Orange County court included firefighters, a former police officer, and members of so-called “outlaw motorcycle clubs.” Operation “Bread, White, and Blues” busted the drug rings in February. As the admitted supplier of cocaine to the group’s other members for distribution, Gamble faces 10-15 years in prison. He will be sentenced in October.
Reports: Pills, Guns Found at Alleged Illegal Day Care Center in Spring Valley
Pills and two loaded guns were found at a Spring Valley home reportedly operating as an illegal day care center. Published reports said six children were at the Lake Street home when police found oxycodone pills and weapons. 25-year-old Quran Dent-Chapman was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
